The Glorious Knowledge of God In Christ

For it is the God who said, “Out of darkness light will shine,” who gives light to our hearts with the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ.(2 Corinthians 4:6)

The glorious knowledge of God has come and it is in the face of Christ. The old covenant was veiled in glory, but now the full glory of God shines forth, illuminates, enlightens, in Christ. Christ has become wisdom from God.(1 Corinthians 1:30) "In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."(Colossians 2:3) But to some, the gospel is veiled, "now, even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to the one perishing, in who the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so they can not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."(2 Corinthians 4:3-4) But to those in whom the glory is unveiled, Christ is the light of the glorious knowledge of God.

Then a shoot will spring up from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the LORD.(Isaiah 11:1-2)

Isaiah speaks of Christ, on whom will rest the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, of counsel and strength, of knowledge and fear of God. "To the one called both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power and wisdom of God."(1 Corinthians 1:24) This wisdom is not like the wisdom of the world, and it is spoken among the mature, wisdom hidden in a mystery whom God determined before the ages for our glory.(1 Corinthians 2:6-7) It is interesting God delighted to make his wisdom known the way he did. Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit because he said God had hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to little children, for this was pleasing in God's sight.(Luke 10:21) In Christ, God has made known his wisdom in a mysterious way and it pleases him to do so.

making known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure which he purposed in Christ.(Ephesians 1:9)

Paul gives us a picture of God's wisdom. He takes what is despised of this world, the weak, those not born well off, choosing what the world considers insignificant and contemptible and existing nothing so to render useless man's boasting, using what the world looks as foolish to shame the wise and using what the world thinks weak to shame the strong, in Christ is wisdom from God and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption so that boasting is in the Lord.(1 Corinthians 1:26-31)

the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.(2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

Out of darkness light has shone in our hearts, the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ.(2 Corinthians 4:6) And the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, the image of God. Therefore the light of the gospel is about knowing Jesus, the glorious knowledge of God. We can go further in this truth. "In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men."(John 1:4) Life in Christ is the Light to men. Therefore the light of the gospel of the glory of knowing Christ is experiencing Life in him.

who gives light to our hearts with the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ.(2 Corinthians 4:6)

The glorious knowledge of God in Christ is no small thing. "The Son is the radiance of the glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word."(Hebrews 1:3) When Jesus said he was the way, truth, and life, that no one could come to the Father except through him and if they knew him they also knew the Father Philip asked Jesus to show him the Father and that would be enough, but Jesus replied "and you still do not know me? the one seeing me has seen the Father!"(John 14:6-9) Jesus is the radiance of God, also said as reflecting the glory of God through His face. So when we believe "the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ" has shown in our hearts, we have been illuminated, enlightened. Since Jesus is the radiance of God, the glorious knowledge of God has flooded our hearts through Christ.

I have come as Light into the world,(John 12:46)

Jesus is the Light of the world. (John 8:12) The light of revelation to the nations and the glory of his people Israel. (Luke 2:32) The true Light to enlighten every man.(John 1:9) He was the word of God that was with God and was God that created all things and came as a light to men. (John 1:1-3) This Light shone as Life to men, as John proclaims Him the word of Life and eternal life in whom we have fellowship in the Light. (1 John 1:1-6) Thus when we walk in the Light, loving one another, it is seen as a sign of passing from death to life.(1 John 2:8) Surely this type of wisdom baffles some, Christ is seen as the word of life, living bread, and how his disciples are known by how they walk in the Light, loving one another?

... until we all attain to the unity of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature adulthood, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.(Ephesians 4:13)

The Life of Christ in me is the Light to men, and it is the glory of Christ in me and this is the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, to the world. The more the glory of Christ shines through me the brighter I shine in this dark world. The church grows through the knowledge of the Son, growing into maturity through knowing Jesus more and more. And when our faith grows stronger and we are being enlightened to his power, hope, and knowledge of His love ever deeper, we get closer to glory. We get closer to being conformed to the image of Christ, transformed from glory to glory.

And is this not the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ? "I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."(John 17:20-22) According to his good pleasure he is accomplishing this, "all things God works for the good of those loved of God, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son,"(Romans 8:28-29) The working out of good is to be conformed to the image of his Son so that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ shines.

so that their hearts are encouraged, coming together in love and to the extent all the riches of a firm persuasion of understanding, unto the knowledge of the mystery, the one Christ.(Colossians 2:2)

Coming to an understanding in the knowledge of Christ, the glorious knowledge of God. What counts or strengthens is faith working through love.(Galatians 5:6) Love is the bond that leads to maturity.(Colossians 3:14) Jesus is the author and perfecter of faith.(Hebrews 12:1-2) Faith comes by hearing, by the word of God.(Romans 10:17) Jesus is the Word of God.(John 1:1-2;14) The unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God brings us into mature adulthood so we are no longer children, tossed to and fro in deceitful scheming, but the truth in love grow up into him, who is the head.(Ephesians 1:19-23) In the knowledge of Jesus, the body, His church, is brought into fullness in Christ. This is why God placed all things under his feet and gave him? "as head on behalf of the church, which exists his body the fullness of him who fills all in all."(Ephesians 1:19-23)

for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh rather having the power of God for tearing down strongholds, tearing down logic and every lofty idea that is raised against the knowledge of God, and taking captive every thought to make it obey Christ.(2 Corinthians 10:5)

Growing strong in the Lord gives you power against everything raised against the knowledge of God. "Finally be empowered in the Lord in the might of his strength, putting on the armor of God for the benefit of you having the power to stand against the schemes of the devil."(Ephesians 6:10-11) The scheme of the devil is to raise up in our minds, our thoughts, our understanding, our reasoning strongholds so that our knowledge of God is not what it should be. To create a god in our image, a false religion that we have made, even though we may call it Christianity. "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will fall away holding to (to apply the mind to a thing, to give heed to, attend to, observe, consider) deceiving spirits and teachings of demons."(1 Timothy 4:1) Paul prays "so that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, gives us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in knowing more of him."(Ephesians 1:17)

Rather, I consider everything as loss through the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, through whom like as all also regarding refuse in order to gain Christ...(Philippians 3:7-12)

The nucleus of the gospel is in knowing Jesus, to gain him, to be found in him, to know the infinitely searchable riches of Christ who is the wisdom and understanding from God. Therefore the nucleus of the Church or the work of ministry is about this, building up, edifying, growth through knowledge of Jesus, "until we all attain to the unity of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature adulthood, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ."(Ephesians 4:13)

There are blessings, riches from his grace and glory like adoption, redemption, forgiveness, sanctification, truth, love, hope, peace, contentment, joy... These all come through knowing Him. Paul compares knowing Christ, the glorious knowledge of God, as something he is attaining more and more using the analogy of an Olympic race. He is pressing on running this race, through the suffering of the body (it is being conformed to His death) entrusting himself to God so to attain His resurrection life (his grace is sufficient for his power matures, perfects, sustains him) so that he keeps running toward the goal (the glory, the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.) It is not like he will reach the end of the race (not on earth will he know Christ fully nor attain fully Christ's life) but he presses on, to make Christ his own, to gain Christ, to know Christ more and more because of the surpassing worth of knowing him and the glorious truth that Christ has laid hold of him.

"... not having a righteousness from the Law, but through faith in Christ, that I may know Him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering, becoming like him in death, if by any means I arrive at the resurrection from the dead, not that I have already taken in hand nor reached my goal but I press on in order to make it my own to the extent like as Christ also making me his own."(Philippians 3:7-12)

Spirit of Life

" Indeed, the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus liberates from the law of sin and death ." 1 This word for liberates "I free, set free, liberate" is from a root word meaning free, exempt, not bound by an obligation. As partakers of God's divine nature, being born of Spirit, we are no longer obligated to the sinful nature but to righteousness which is God's nature. When we believe we receive the Spirit of promise, a guarantee of our inheritance, a great testimony that we are His children, it is a Spirit of Life. " Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." 24 The Son came not to condemn the world but to save it. "One trespass   led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. " 6 " He was delivered over to death for our trespasses and wa...

All Who Are Thirsty

“ Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;  and he who has no money,  come, buy and eat!  Come, buy wine and milk  without money and without price.  Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,  and your labor for that which does not satisfy?  Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,  and delight yourselves in rich food. .." (Isaiah 55). " Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price ." Buy is defined as to acquire the ownership of by giving an accepted price or consideration therefore; to accept or believe as true .[ 1 ] When we buy something we consider the price that we must pay, we accept this and purchase the thing we have considered worthy of the sacrifice we make in payment. W e can not buy, with money or price, redemption from t his tragic flaw we are born into. However Jesus paid the price for us, so we buy or accept through consideration, the Greek word is  logizomai.[ 2] ...

The Tripartite Nature of Humanity: Spirit, Soul, and Body

The Tripartite Nature of Humanity: Spirit, Soul, and Body in Biblical Understanding The human being, as depicted in the Bible, is a multifaceted creation, often understood through the distinct yet interconnected components of spirit, soul, and body. While some theological perspectives lean towards a bipartite view (soul and body), which we do see in the Old Testament, a careful examination of the New Testament scripture reveals a compelling case for a tripartite understanding, where each is divided into or composed of three parts. Let’s explore the biblical distinction between spirit, soul, and body. The Body: Our Earthly Vessel The body is the physical form that interacts with the material world. From the very beginning, Genesis 2:7 states, " Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being ." This verse clearly establishes the body's origin from the earth, emphasizing its connec...

Lord, Stand By Me

"... present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness ." 1 This word for present means "I bring, present, come up to and stand by," it is parístēmi (from pará, "from close-beside" and hístēmi, "to stand") – properly, stand close beside, i.e. ready to present (exhibit). I pray Lord stand by me which expresses that I put my trust in Him, or I come up to and stand by Him. We use phrases like surrendering or bowing at the cross to explain such a moment, surely it is a coming to the end of ourselves and it is desirable that I find His will acceptable, but it is important to understand that it is about trust, not my will power, the key is that it is in Christ. The terminology the scriptures use is "present yourselves to God," or come up to and stand by and walk with Him. "... present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this...

Surrender and Giving Control in Christian Thought: Scriptural Roots, Modern Interpretations, and the Quest for Spiritual Maturity

Surrender and Giving Control in Christian Thought: Scriptural Roots, Modern Interpretations, and the Quest for Spiritual Maturity Introduction The theological concept of surrender—or giving control to God—occupies a prominent place in the modern Christian consciousness. From pulpits, in devotional material, songs, and across a multitude of Christian traditions, believers are often exhorted to “surrender their lives to Christ,” to “give up control." This is often expressed as a “come to the end of yourselves,” experience. These exhortations, frequently couched in emotive and urgent language, invite believers to a posture of yielding, releasing, and letting go. Yet, when this language is measured against the actual vocabulary, teachings, and emphases of the Greek New Testament, important questions emerge:  How biblically grounded are the concepts of “surrender” and “giving control”? Does such language reflect the spiritual vision of the earliest Christian church and scripture, or...

Freedom from the Mosaic Law: A Deep Theological Exploration of New Testament Teaching

Freedom from the Mosaic Law: A Deep Theological Exploration of New Testament Teaching Introduction: The Question of the Mosaic Law and Christian Identity One of the most significant theological debates and practical challenges for the early church was the place of the Mosaic Law in the life of believers in Jesus Christ. This question remains alive today, particularly in communities and churches that quote the Old Testament as if its legal prescriptions still directly obligate Christians. The apostolic writings, especially those of Paul, provide the primary lens through which the New Testament resolves this matter. Paul’s letters—rich in both theological reflection and ecclesiastical urgency—not only confront false teaching but chart the path of new covenant living by the Holy Spirit.  This essay seeks to offer a doctrinal synthesis on why believers are no longer “under the Mosaic Law,” supported by original-language insights, harmonized scripture references, and commentar...

Theological Comparison of the New Covenant of Grace and the Old Covenant of the Law

Theological Comparison of the New Covenant of Grace and the Old Covenant of the Law: A Detailed Study Rooted in Ephesians 2:11–22 Introduction The theme of covenant is central to the biblical narrative, shaping God’s relationship with humanity from creation through redemption. The new covenant is called by Paul a ministry of reconciliation, righteousness, and of the Spirit. The shift from the old Mosaic covenant—rooted in the Law given to Israel at Sinai—to the new covenant of grace established in Christ, fundamentally redefines how people approach God, community, and salvation. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, particularly 2:11–22, provides a remarkably clear and rich theological exposition of this transition, addressing not only the spiritual implications for Jews and Gentiles but also the very nature of the church as God’s new creation. This report develops an in-depth, paragraph-driven theological comparison between the old and new covenants, structured around nine key themes de...

Called According to His Purpose: A Biblical Examination

Called According to His Purpose: A Biblical Examination 📖 Introduction The phrase “called according to His purpose” appears in Romans 8:28 (ESV), a foundational verse that reads: “And we know that for those loved of God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” This statement gives comfort and more—it is a declaration about identity, destiny, and divine intent. To be “called according to His purpose” means participating in God’s sovereign, redemptive plan. God's plan is being manifested through the church through the "new covenant in his blood" as it was established by the death of Jesus. The calling is not arbitrary or based on human merit, but is rooted in God’s purpose, eternal will and love. 🔍 The Nature of the Calling In Scripture, God's calling is effectual—that is, it accomplishes what He intends. Paul writes: "...those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified,...
