Spirit of Life

"Indeed, the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus liberates from the law of sin and death."1

This word for liberates "I free, set free, liberate" is from a root word meaning free, exempt, not bound by an obligation. As partakers of God's divine nature, being born of Spirit, we are no longer obligated to the sinful nature but to righteousness which is God's nature. When we believe we receive the Spirit of promise, a guarantee of our inheritance, a great testimony that we are His children, it is a Spirit of Life.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life."24

The Son came not to condemn the world but to save it. "One trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men."6 "He was delivered over to death for our trespasses and was raised to life for our justification."8 "For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification."4 There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. Life begins by receiving by faith grace and righteousness, "those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ."5 

"Even as the Father raises the dead and gives life, thus also the Son gives life to whom he will."21 

The Law did not have the power to perfect man, give Life. It was weak through the flesh as the carnal mind can't subject itself to the laws of God. But Christ came to give us power, that we might become children of God, partakers of His divine nature. "For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly." Adam was a living soul, Christ a life giving Spirit, He gives life, the word is zōopoiei, from zōgréō, "alive" and poiéō, "make" – properly, make alive. "even being dead in our trespasses, made us alive together, by grace you have been saved."22 This word for made alive together is from sun "with" and zóopoieó "make alive." In Christ we are made alive, together with Him.

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and life."9 

Jesus is the Word, the Truth, and here we see his words are spirit and life. We see why it is a double-edged sword, "the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." It is through the words of Christ that we are given a measure of faith, and it is Spirit that draws men to Christ. We see there has to be an enlightenment, an opening of the eyes and hearts, an understanding in the k nowlegd eof teh Son of God, that can only be revealed by Spirit and Truth. The new covenant without the Spirit of Life would just be adhering to principles, rules, and regulations, which is the same kind of wisdom of the world which profits the flesh and is no different than the false religion of the legalist.

"be filled with the Spirit, speaking to each other in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, and making music in your hearts to the Lord."4

Oh how important is the Spirit of God in our Life. Very early as a believer did I learn to come boldly into His presence through worship, and now I know it is  experiencing the Spirit of Life. I have found this is entering into His rest, an overwhelming, unchanging, peace, and love poured out into our hearts through song and praise. Worship is a powerful tool in the Church that God uses. We pray that we are not like walking dead people, conformed externally to a religion and not transformed by the Spirit of a living God.

"I pray that out of the riches of His glory, He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend the length and width and height and depth of His love, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."6
