Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the one according to His great mercy, gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.(1 Peter 1:3)
God was rich in mercy through his great love which he loved us, even though we were dead in our sin, we were made alive in Christ.(Ephesians 2:4-6) According to his great mercy we are born a new into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus. What does it mean we are born into a living hope? Now, if Christ has not been raised then our proclamation is empty also and your faith is empty.(1 Corinthians 15:14)
What proclamation? The gospel proclaims Christ crucified and resurrected, for without his resurrection our proclamation is empty and so is our faith. If this is not true then "we are found to be false witnesses of God because we witness accordingly of God because he raised Christ who he did not raise if the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised not even Christ was raised and if Christ was not raised our faith is worthless, to exist still in your sins, then all who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished if our hope in Christ exist for this life only, we exist of all men to be pitied."(1 Corinthians 15:14)
for I have entrusted to you in order what I also received; that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose on the third day according to the scriptures...(1 Corinthians 15:3-5)
In order Paul received first Christ died for our sins, then he was buried, and he rose again. The word order is πρῶτος (prōtos) first in time, order; importance. Is Paul saying that of first importance Christ died? Is he saying the proclamation of the gospel is all about the cross? Or is he saying of importance includes in order that Christ died, was buried, and rose again? As we have seen the proclamation of the gospel is empty if we do not proclaim his resurrection.(1 Corinthians 15:14) Thus the cross would have been for nothing if Christ has not been raised. So the better translation and understanding is in a way in which that entrusted, the gospel, includes as important his crucifixion and his resurrection, "... of importance what I also received; Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose on the third day according to the scriptures."
for you have been born a new not from perishable seed rather imperishable through the living and enduring word of God.(1 Peter 1:23)
If our only hope is in this life, then it is not a living hope is it? That would be putting our hope in earthly things that perish, and we too would perish and not be resurrected. But he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The same power that rose Christ from the dead Paul prays that the eyes of our hearts would be enlightened to, so we know the surpassing greatness of his power available to all who believe.(Ephesians 1:16-23)
the one descending from David according to the flesh, the one appointed Son of God in power according to the spirit of holiness from the resurrected dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.(Romans 1:2-4)
The enlightenment of our hearts includes to know the surpassing greatness of his power, hope of our calling, the riches of his glory, the inheritance among the saints. The surpassing greatness of his power is the same power that raised Christ. It is the Spirit that gives life, for the flesh profits nothing. (John 6:63) His death and resurrection go hand in hand, as does his resurrection power and hope, that is why it is called a living hope. Think about it, if I knew the greatness of his power, his resurrection power, certainly I would know of a living hope, what it means to have "a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." So we pray as Paul that the eyes of our hearts are enlightened into this power and hope, this living hope.
