Saving Grace

but God existing rich in mercy through his great love, whom loving us also dead in our trespasses, he made us alive together with Christ, grace exists saving.*

Grace exists saving, or our salvation exists through grace. God's mercy triumphed his judgement, and his mercy existed because of his great love for us. Think of a father trying to discipline his child but the child turns away, the father could condemn the child, giving him up, but instead he chooses to show mercy because his love is greater. We have access to grace through faith but let's for now explain how grace exists saving.

God was long-suffering, enduring sin, in those under the Law, they were vessels of God's wrath so that we are vessels of his mercy. Paul writes, the new covenant is a ministry of reconciliation. The Law judged and condemned Judah for breaking covenant with God, but because of his great love, mercy triumphed. It is an amazing concept. Traditionally salvation is taught only as when we first believe in Christ. But salvation is on going and grace exists saving, as we learn to rule over sin under grace not under the law and grace reigns through righteousness.

so that just as sin reigned in the one death, in this way also the one grace reigns through righteousness to the extent of eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.*

Grace reigns through righteousness. Paul writes, the Spirit is Life in Christ, and frees us from the principle of sin and death.* "But if Christ in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life through righteousness.* The Spirit is life in Christ through righteousness and righteousness is a free gift, given through faith according to grace. Righteousness is given along with abundant grace when we believe in Christ. But one part of our salvation, the redemption of our body, will not be complete until we die and are resurrected in a new body, if Christ doesn't return first. It is an amazing concept, that just as sin reigned in death, grace reigns through righteousness. How?

Also now free from sin and enslaved to God, the fruit you get to the extent of sanctification, now, the end obtained, eternal life.*

We are not slaves nor servants, it is important to make this distinction because doctrines of men would use these scriptures to enslave men. Paul uses these concepts to help in understanding, once we were slaves to our sinful nature, it was who we were, the old person, but now we are a new creation, enslaved to our new nature. Again we are not slaves to God but we exist children of God, having been born of Spirit. We are now partakers of God's divine nature thus we are indebted to live according to our true nature which is Spirit, and righteousness. Being a child of God produces fruit of righteousness which leads us into sanctification. Yes, we were saved, renewed in Spirit but we exist in a perishable body. So to our question, how does grace reign through righteousness? the fruit you get leads into sanctification, which is our reasonable service, to put off the old person and put on the new one, renewed in the knowledge of the Son, or transformed to the image of Christ.

I appeal to you therefore brethern, through the mercies of God, present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, consecrated to God, that your reasonable service.*

Through God's mercies and grace we rule over sin. Think about this, what is more important, that you give, serve, and sacrifice or that you become like Jesus? being transformed from glory to glory, into the image of our creator, is our greatest act of worship and spiritual service. In fact for the true believer the fruit you get leads you into this service. In this reasonable service presenting the body a living sacrifice speaks to the teachings of baptism and into what is called the great commission. Discipleship includes teaching and baptism, which includes this reasonable service. Now, I ask, what is more important, spreading the gospel or becoming like Jesus? It is becoming like Jesus, because if we are like Jesus we will live like Jesus and do as Jesus did. If we are like Jesus the fruit is there, you won't have to manipulate people, as they will live to their true nature. If we look at the life of Jesus on earth, he primarily taught the apostles, he made disciples. In the context of becoming like Jesus and our reasonable service we see the intimacy of teaching and discipleship of more importance to the extent of our transformation, thus of greater service to Jesus.

But you exist of him in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, all of these, righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.*

The gift of righteousness leads into sanctification, which is accomplished under grace, thus grace reigns through righteousness. Do you see this? Sin reigned in death likewise grace reigns through righteousness. Under grace we will rule over sin or said another way the fruit of righteousness is developed under grace. Jesus condemned sin in the flesh, taking away the power of death, and the power of sin was through the Law, the fear of punishment, but Jesus nailed that which was adverse to us in commandments to the cross. The Law was spiritual but man was weak through the carnal mind, sinful nature, not having power to fulfill the Law. Jesus gives us such power, in that we become sons, in which the promise of inheritance is fulfilled by the Spirit in us, and we become spiritual thus fulfilling the spiritual laws of God. This was accomplished because of grace, in that God so loved the world that he sent his Son not to condemn man but sin in the flesh. Sin reigned through death and grace reigns through righteousness. Righteousness is sown in peace and the gospel is prepared in peace, and the fruit is quietness, trust, rest, assurance... the things of faith.

Through him, taking hold of grace and apostleship, to the extent of obedient faith in all the nations under his name.*

Through faith the promise is fulfilled in that all peoples and all nations are blessed in his name. True faith produces obedience but it does so through grace and grace reigns through the gift of righteousness and life in Christ Jesus. Righteousness and the gospel is sown and prepared in peace, so this fruit is produced under grace, thus grace exists saving. "For the one grace exists saving through faith..."* Godly obedience is not produced under the Law, it did not perfect men nor give Life using the fear of death and punishment. Obedience is not produced through forms of self-abasement of the flesh, flogging yourself will never give one power to rule over sin. Serving and sacrifice doesn't strengthen in this reasonable service. To motivate through consequentialism has one fatal flaw, a consequence of following Christ is persecution. We are made alive together with Christ, a new creation, this and faith active through love strengthens us, thus grace exists saving.

But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all things will be added to you.*

Faith is given as a measure, and faith is increased or added to us.* How does God add to us? by increasing our faith and faith comes through the words of Christ. What must we do? seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness. What is our reasonable service? to put off the old man and to put on the new man created in righteousness this putting first the kingdom is putting first his righteousness. "Making, the one who knew no sin, sin for us so that in Him we become the righteousness of God."* So how do we put first his righteousness? we receive the gift of righteousness through faith and the fruit we get leads us into sanctification, our reasonable service, and the outcome is life. So seeking first his righteousness is to enter into this reasonable service, or to become like Christ. Sanctification is in truth, through the words of Jesus, and when we seek his righteousness, we become, and that which we need for this purpose is given, faith is added to us. It is the truth that sets us free, and we must abide in the truth, who is Jesus the Vine, so we abide to bear fruit. If we ask anything in his name, this he adds to us so the Father is glorified through the Son.* How is the Father glorified through the Son? in that we reflect his image, or become like Jesus.

For the one grace exists saving through faith and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift of God.*

Grace reigns through righteousness. The fruit you get leads to sanctification, which is presenting your body a living sacrifice, being transformed, the mind renewed to be spiritual, no longer carnal. The outcome of sanctification is a renewed mind so that we accept and approve God's will. Do you not see how Jesus condemned sin in the flesh? What does it mean that a renewed mind accepts and approves of God's will? The mind can now approve of God's laws which are spiritual, thus the mind becomes spiritual like the true identity of the new creation inward. The outcome is obedience, or a slave to righteousness, the true nature. What is the outcome of obedience to God? to eat from the tree of Life, to receive the crown of Life, thus the fruit you get, to the extent of sanctification, has the outcome of Life. Grace exists saving for this purpose.
