Therefore lay off all pollution and superabundant evil, receiving with meekness the implanted Word, the power to save your souls.*
Exists no fear in love; but perfected agape love thrusts out fear, the fear possesses punishment. So the one fearing reverentially, is not perfected in love.*
... be transformed in the renewing of your mind so that you discern the will of God, what is good, and acceptable and perfect.*
This word for lay off means "to lay off, lay down or aside, as garments." Paul uses this concept related to the teachings of baptism, laying off of the old man, the old filthy garments, polluted, and stained. We are to put on the new man, that belonging a first fruit, a new creation in Christ. How? This is probably the most misunderstood aspect of Christianity today. There is a way, the word for implanted speaks of implanted, ingrafted, infixed. In scripture we see clearly a distinction between soul, body, and Spirit and we read it is the Word of God that penetrates through, like a two-edged sword distributing the two, along with the thoughts and intentions of the heart.* It is the implanted Word of God that saves the soul, it is the truth that sanctifies. Jesus fulfilled the will of the Father by bringing his words to man, thus through Christ we have salvation, both born of Spirit and the saving of our souls. In the prayer of Jesus we see his heart for us to be sanctified in truth. Let us
look at what this means, sanctification in truth and how it has power to save our our souls.
for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal Life in Christ Jesus our Lord.*
What is the free gift? Often we think of eternal life as just going to heaven, but it exists much more. How do we have eternal Life here on earth? how is this accomplished in the child of God? later we answer this question but for now, we see the principle of sowing in this verse, which applies both to sin and the word of God, it is very important that we understand this. This is how sin is sown, "Afterwards, the desire conceived brings forth sin, now also, sin fully-grown, brings forth death.* The desire of the flesh is conceived, given birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown it brings forth death. Life is accomplished the same way, the word conceived brings forth fruit, also, the word fully-grown, brings forth Life. The word of God is sown, and conceived, implanted, a measure of faith, Jesus being the author and perfecter of faith, and when it is fully grown it brings forth Life. How is it fully grown? In the parable of sowing we see three steps, hearing, receiving, and understanding. It is those who understand who produce much fruit. Faith is grown through the Word of God, and faith is given as a measure which must be added to, or fully grown. We see this in the faith of Abraham, who did not turn back because of unbelief but pressed in, knowing that God rewards those who diligently seek him.

Now, that sown in time of good soil, this exists the one hearing the message and understanding who indeed bears fruit and produces some hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.*
fix your eyes distinctively upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith...
For the Word of God possesses life and is active cutting above any two-edged sword, both penetrating until distributing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and discerns the result of thinking and purposed heart.*
There is a time of good soil, we know the the gospel is sown in peace as is the fruit of righteousness, it is a ministry of reconciliation, not isolation, judgement, fear and condemnation. We are to lean on God's understanding, and so we are guided in all our ways. How is this accomplished? It is through trust, which is an element of our faith, so when one increases in faith he increases in wisdom and understanding in Christ Jesus. This is truth that faith is increased through understanding, and this understanding is the difference between one who bears fruit, and pne who heats only. As James writes, the one bearing is a doer of the Word, not a hearer only. A hearer only, is one who is double minded, tossed to and fro by doctrines of men, he is not strong, he can't discern the will of God, he has not overcome the evil one, he is carnally minded, he can't submit to the laws of God thus he can not be obedient. Why? the Word of God doesn't abide in Him, so we see the key to overcoming, to saving our soul.
For if someone exists a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a mature person understanding, his natural face in a mirror then perceiving himself also he goes away and instantly forgets what he existed.*
It is an amazing verse which speaks to our identity in Christ, and how transformation is accomplished. In this we find understanding or revelation in truth, the mind being renewed to be like the mind of Christ. But there is a caveat, which can be explained like a weighing down or tug of war, the child of God is on the fence, in respect to the renewing of his mind, there exists evil doing its best to sow fruit unto death, to sway the mind to its side, thus polluted the child of God remains, or polluted the mirror is. The child understood looking into truth but the seed was stolen so he is now looking dimly into. In Christ the child is a new creation, but the mind is carnal, in which evil wars against bringing the child into captivity to sin. Through sanctification the mind is being transformed. How? the child must abide in the truth, looking intently into truth, and in this mirror he will see who he really is in Christ, and will become so if he is a doer. Understanding in truth is revealed to him, but if he is not a doer of the truth, if he walks away he will forget who he is. So we see a part we must do, we must remain, abide, continue in truth. A doer is one who walks in truth, who has experienced freedom and who continues in truth, in this is endurance, and the testing of faith.
Distinctively, faith comes in Jesus, both author and perfecter. The word perfecter is teleiōtēs, "perfection, maturity, completeness." and is related to what Jesus said it is finished! Jesus has given us the Word of God and there is no other way to accomplish salvation of your soul. Some teach faith as if it is conjured up by the will of men, but it is through the increasing of our faith, which is accomplish in Jesus, the truth. One must abide in the Vine to bear fruit. "Abide in me and also I abide in you, just as a branch has no power to bear fruit by itself, unless you abide in the Vine, so neither you unless you abide in me."* Abiding speaks of connecting and remaining, being steadfast, and of enduring, and in this we see the concept of looking intently into the truth, of being a doer, not a hearer only, this is enduring in truth, in which exists the law of liberty. What does it mean to look intently into truth? it is to be an active doer. And how is this accomplished? to continue in truth. What is its outcome? life and freedom.
But the one intently looking into the perfected law, that liberty, and continues with, not becoming a forgetful hearer but an active doer, he will exist blessed in this his doing.*
Continuing with is abiding, or remaining, enduring and it is the key to freedom. One must abide in truth, to know and be set free. Looking intently speaks of preparation of the ground or soil. Jesus said, "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life,...”* This word for looks to, means "to contemplate; to behold, view, with interest and attention," This also speaks of the concept of looking intently into the Word, in this case to believe, for salvation. Look to the Son for salvation! This word for active doer is how James defines faith; one that produces deeds which agree with Paul's statement that faith is active in love. The deeds of love James writes of is the golden rule of treating others as Christ would, and of pure religion that helps orphans and widows, and of servant leadership that is quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. A faith that is without these deeds of love is dead as faith without love is nothing. A works justification and performance driven living, or a mindset of slavery, or self-abasement of the flesh doesn't accomplish the work of God. We will never be justified by works of the Law, not by any kind of works, the blood of Jesus justified us. True faith produces true deeds of love, as we become like Christ, in truth, and what strengthens is faith active through love.*
The Word of God possesses Life, as Jesus is Eternal Life and the Word of Life. This is food that endures unto everlasting Life and must be diligently sought and fed upon for Life, but not like earthly food. A key to growth is in understanding how the Word of God is active or energizes in growth, so let us pay close attention to the wording in these scriptures related to sowing; fruit, bringing forth, conceiving, and implanting. Bringing forth the right fruit is accomplished not through do's or do not's nor through positive thinking, even the world can benefit from such things, but through the power that save souls which comes through the implanted word of God. We can feed our souls the word of God or we can sow to the flesh, either way that which is sown is conceived a seedling, and when becoming fully conceived, fully grown, the wage is death or life. Thank God for the truth, in Christ one can not continue in sin as its wage is death, in Christ death has no dominion over us nor does sin, instead in Christ the outcome is Life. There is a Way that leads to Life.
Desiring He brought us forth into the Word of truth, so that we exist one, the first fruits, that He created.*
It is an amazing thing, the mystery that God kept hidden in the beginning. God desired this by the good pleasure of His will, that from the riches of His grace and glory he would bless us in Christ. It was God's plan for us to become a new creation in Christ. And in this we find our strength"For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision exists anything, but a new creation."* This bringing forth into Life is what Paul speaks of, and what counts is not being under the covenant of circumcision, nor the covenant of the Law, but a new creation in Christ Jesus. The promise would be filled through the Seed, given to Abraham before circumcision and the Law, because the promises through the gospel comes not to one people and nation but to all people and all nations, the sons of Abraham are not Jews of the flesh, but of faith. The promise was always based upon faith according to grace, this was a mystery hidden that the prophets got to foresee, including Abraham, and which is revealed through Christ. Such wisdom is being proclaimed in the Church. Christ is the Word, the truth, thus we are conceived, a new creation, how? through the living Word and the Spirit of Life.
You are also in Him, having heard the Word of truth, the gospel of salvation, in Him also believing you were marked with the promised Holy Spirit.*
How are the children of God marked or sealed? This word for marked means to seal up, to close up, conceal; mark distinctively as invested with a certain character, to set one’s own mark upon, seal as one’s own, to impress with a mark of acceptance; to deliver over safely to someone. Jesus was marked for a purpose, "Do not work for food that perishes, but the food that endures for eternal Life, that the Son gives you, for this person, God the Father, marked (set a seal)"* The Father marked Jesus, giving him authority to give Life. In as far as that, the Word became flesh and gave God's words to man. There is no better way to put forth the will of God than an oath, a promise, a word? Jesus is the incarnation of the Word of Life and through abiding, feeding on this living bread we receive Life. Therefore Jesus is the Word, the Truth and the Life, this Life became flesh and as John writes he is Eternal Life proclaimed to us. "This life revealed and seen and witnessed and proclaimed to you, the Eternal Life, that existed with the Father and revealed to us."* The Word of God who was sown by the Father, brought life to men on earth. And so we see this truth, the Word of God sown brings forth Life, so we are brought forth into Life. "He brought us forth into the Word of truth, so that we exist one, the first fruits, that He created."
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision strengthens anyone but faith energized through agape love.*
Being a new creation counts also, "For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision exists anything, but a new creation."* So we see what strengthens; being a new creation, and faith active through love.* Jesus said one must be born of Spirit, to enter into the kingdom of God. Having God's Spirit put within us we become partakers of His divine nature. The Spirit guides unto truth, helps in our weakness. We see the purpose of grace, that nothing else strengthens one, not following the "letter of the law," not principles of do not taste, touch, handle, but a new creation and a faith that is working or active or energized through love. As James writes faith is expressed through deeds of love, and as Paul writes faith without love is nothing, so we are rooted and ground in faith that is energized through love, thus we are being perfected, in love, not the fear of punishment. Jesus came in the fullness of the Father of grace and truth, so this is how we tell the true gospel from another, it is a gospel of grace and truth. What strengthens is faith energized by love. If we are first fruits of Christ then as Jesus said, the world will know we are his disciples in that we love one another.

sanctify them in the truth, that your word exists truth.*
This word for sanctify is hagiazō, "to separate, consecrate; cleanse, purify, sanctify; regard, or reverence as holy."* The disciples had already believed in truth, now they are to be sanctified in truth. This word is derived from the root word for holy. We are to be holy as God is holy, so how do we accomplish holiness while we live in a corrupt body? First, one must be a new creation, born again, partakers of his nature. Second, it is through the implanted Word, sanctification in the truth. It is the purpose of the Church, that we are being transformed into the full measure of the stature of Christ, being fully conceived, fully grown, mature, so that we reflect, look like Christ. Paul writes, we are to build up the body, this is sanctification which is a perfection in love, or is accomplished in the implanted Word of God, or faith that is energized in agape love, sacrifice and serving for this purpose. What does a Church look like if it is not pure, consecrated, and sanctified? it looks like the world and such a Church will never convince the world it has Life to offer.
Pray like this, our Father in the heavens, may your name be sanctified, may your kingdom come, your will be done, that on earth as in heaven...*
How is God's name sanctified? God's name is holy, whether I revere it or not it doesn't change this truth, so why would Jesus teach the disciples to pray this? We are his children therefore how we act reflects on His name. There is more meaning here, and we do get to read of an intimate prayer of Jesus, recorded by John in which Jesus prays along the same words "your name is manifested to men whom you gave me out of the world, they exist yours, you gave them to me and they guard your word."* Guarding would indicate a doer of the word, not that you guard a specific translation or a book, but that you actively do and abide in truth. It is an amazing concept, that Jesus revealed not only the Word but also His name. We see why this was necessary, it was hidden in God until Christ but also as Paul writes they knew God but did not glorify Him as God, they exchanged the truth for a lie. I believe to glory His name is two parts; first a relationship which is accomplished through the sown Word, and second, is to become like the Son, which is through sanctification in truth, accomplished through the fully conceived Word of God.
And let endurance have intended purpose, so that existing perfected and complete, lacking in nothing.*
We see the purpose of the Church in this verse, so that we exist perfected and complete in Christ. Before Christ died, he said "it is finished." The word for finished is teleō, "to finish, complete, fulfill;" And the word perfected is teleios, "brought to completion; fully accomplished, fully developed." So we see two concepts in Christ it is "finished" and in Christ it is "brought to completion." In Christ we receive the free gifts of grace and righteousness. "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life."* The Way to Eternal Life and saving of the soul is sanctification in truth. And the Holy Spirit is Life through righteousness. Righteousness is by faith according to grace. "Therefore also credited to him as righteousness, but that credited to him was not written for his sake, alone, but with our sake in mind and that was intended to credit, the one believing in the one raising Jesus our Lord from the dead."* Righteousness is credited to us. God 's wisdom is that perfection is in His power, and it begins inward, our nature becomes His working its way outward through sanctification.
Exists no fear in love; but perfected agape love thrusts out fear, the fear possesses punishment. So the one fearing reverentially, is not perfected in love.*
It is another truth in Christ, that what strengthens is love, not fear. The Mosaic Law had power in the fear of punishment but it did not perfect or accomplish God's work as the flesh was weak. Under the Law sin abounds thus in Christ we exist under grace. If ones believes in reverential fear of God, they have not been perfected in Christ to maturity, as perfection in Christ, is through faith that is active in agape love, not fear. Also, we can draw a separation between perfection in Spirit, which is finished when we believed and are marked with the Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance, as Paul writes, our spirit sits in the heavenlies with Christ and that between our soul, in which is needed the implanted word to save, to accomplish sanctification. Jesus gave us the Word, the truth of God, and in Truth and Love we are being perfected. It is the truth being accomplished in my Life, I speak of such revelation, not of head knowledge of scriptures but of Life being accomplished in me, how it is Spirit and Truth, the implanted Word, in which the Truth is accomplishing sanctification, transformation, holiness.
It is another truth that perfection produces obedience, and not obedience produces perfection. The Law did not perfect through adhering to "the letter of the law" with its judgement and condemnation of transgression. Why? because the carnal minded man can't submit to the laws of God. So God's wisdom begins inwardly, building a strong foundation, rooting and grounding in truth and love, before the work of obedience is accomplished through transformation. Truly, being transformed by the renewing of our minds is how we accomplish the will of God, how the carnal mind finds and accepts that God's will is good, acceptable, and perfect (teleios). Thus we see perfection and holiness through sanctification of truth. Jesus came to give us His word, the implanted word of truth that saves our soul. The true disciples knows this truth, that Life is abiding in the truth, or as John writes in that which they heard from the beginning, the Word of Life. I have come to know, that the whole truth is that freedom comes through abiding in the truth. This is the greatest glory we give the Father, this fellowship and relationship with our heavenly Father, and it is His will that we become like Him. It is truth, a Father delights in an obedient son, and a son delights and glorifies his father when he wants to be like his Dad.
Now, desiring in faith, not one separating, for the one separating is like a wave of the sea, driven by wind and tossed about.*
This verse is usually translated different, as if someone must ask in faith not doubting. Looking closely at this verse in Greek, we have new insight. We see this word for separating, which also speaks of Abraham's faith, he "did not turn back, separating through unbelief regarding the promise of God but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and became fully convinced that what God promised he existed also powerful to do."* It is powerful observation of faith, in that faith is given a measure and needs to be strengthened until it becomes fully convincing. It is like a seedling growing that needs to become fully grown, to bear fruit. It doesn't say Abraham did not doubt, no, but he was not separated because of unbelief, but was strengthened asking God for more, and God added to his faith. One separates not because of doubt, one will doubt as evil will war against the mind, even through the church in doctrines of men. Discernment comes through transformation as he abides in the word, looking intently into truth, he must press in, by abiding he will overcome, doing what he sees not turning away from truth, like a child looking dimly or one who looks and understands his true identity but turns back, not an active doer, but a hearer only, he separates himself from what God promised. Thank God that he doesn't leave his children in such a state, he is working out all things for our good.
Every good gift and every perfected gift exists from above, coming down from the Father of Light, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning back.*
Tuning back is not from God, God doesn't tempt with evil, it is the desires of the flesh and superabundant evil that wars to bring one into captivity thus when conceived produces a variation from truth. And most likely it was caused by the weeds that choke out the seedling, the cares of this world, the deceits of riches, and even persecution. Turning back speaks of not being rooted and grounded to begin with. The perfected (teleios) gifts come down from heaven, they are spiritual blessings, not earthly blessings of the material things of this world. Jesus is the most perfect gift given to man, the Father gave the Son in agape love, thus agape love is the most perfect gift we should desire from heaven. Eternal life is very desirable and obtainable here. "The wage of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life, in Christ Jesus our Lord."* John writes if that which is heard and proclaimed, the Word of Life, abides in you then you will have eternal Life.
Consider it all joy, my brothers, when encountering various trials, knowing that the trying of your faith produces endurance, and also having endurance the power to work perfection, so that you exist perfect and complete lacking nothing.*
The saving our our souls is a perfection, purification, holiness, transformation into the image of Christ. This perfection is being accomplished in a faith that is active in love or a love that energizes faith, thus faith without love is nothing. For faith to increase one must abide in truth and be rooted and grounded in love. In a faith that is active in love the fruit of righteousness has energy, it leads the child of God into sanctification, which end is eternal life, "now free from sin and enslaved to God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its outcome is eternal Life."*
