Grace Upon Grace

"The Law entered that transgression might abound, however, where sin abounded, Grace overbounded, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness into life..."1

This word for transgression has been translated as offense, trespass, sin, and falling away, it is paraptóma (from pará, "from close-beside" and píptō, "to fall") – properly, fall away, after being close-beside. This offense, trespass, sin that leads to death came through one man Adam. He walked close to God in the garden, before he fell away, committing the offense.2 Because of one man Adam judgement came, the result condemnation.3 However, through one man Jesus Christ, we received reconciliation, righteousness, Grace upon Grace.

Because of the offense of Adam many died, "by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one."4 By one man’s disobedience many were made sinners.5 This word for sin is hamartia from A "not" and méros, "a part, share of", it was regularly used in ancient times of an archer missing the target. Sin means one has no share in God's righteousness, they have missed the mark of it, defined by sin, it is the nature of those not in Christ. This missing the mark, or sin, abounds because of one man's offense. We were without strength but in due time Christ died for us.6

What great Love, the weak made strong in the Saviour's love. Rarely, would one die for a righteous person, but for a sinner one would not die.7 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."8

Jesus, the Word of God, came full of grace and truth, "we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."9 This gift of grace Jesus gave from the Father. "And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned."10 No, this gift is in fullness of grace; righteousness, and justification. Jesus made it possible by the power of an indestructible life.11 "Through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life."12 His death brought reconciliation, his life brought salvation.14 "He was delivered over for the offenses of us and was raised for the justification of us."15 From all things, which one was not able in the Law of Moses to be justified, in Him everyone believing is justified.16

"Those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ." Justified, made righteous, by His blood, by His death.20 But there is more, I am saved from wrath against the offense committed, while I was an enemy He died for me, reconciling to God. Though an enemy He loved me, now brought near He commands me to love as such. His greatest commandments are of love, without love we are nothing, it is impossible to please him without faith and love. Reconciled by His death, but more, I am saved by His life.22 "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh"21 And even more, this reconciliation to God brings joy, life. "Beyond abundant is the grace of the Lord of us with faith and love that are in Christ Jesus."23 "...I have been filled with encouragement, beyond increased with joy..."24

"When the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons."25 By the one offense many died, and through the one Jesus Christ many live, how much more abounds the Grace of God and the gift in grace which is through the one.25 The law entered that the offense might abound. This word for abound is pleonázō which means greater in number (more than enough, increase). The offense brought death to many, the gift brought grace to many. The gift is not like the offense, the gift is of many offenses unto justification, the offense of one judgement unto condemnation.26  For once we were dead but now we are alive, "God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved."27

By abolishing the law of commandments of dogma, ordinances, so that in Jew and Gentile He would create in himself one New man and that He might reconcile in one Body to God.30 His Church is His people, we are one, Jew and Gentile, to be filled in all fullness of Him. We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. that we should walk in them. Through Jesus we all have access to the Father through one Spirit. We are fellow citizens of the household of God, having being built up on the apostles and prophets, with the cornerstone himself, Jesus Christ. The whole is being joined together into a holy temple in the Lord, and in Him you are being built up into a dwelling place for God by His Spirit.31

"Those receiving the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, in life will reign by one Jesus Christ."32 This word for abundance is perisseia which means all-around, "exceeding", "abundantly"; beyond what is anticipated. "Where the offense abounded Grace overabounded." This word for overbounded is hyperperisseúō (from hypér, "beyond" and perisseúō, "abundantly, exceeding"), it is not just increase in number but hyper increased in number, or beyond increase. "For of the fullness of Him we all have received moreover grace upon grace."33 This word for fullness is plḗrōma – "fullness, sum, filled to capacity, super abundance." Full, beyond increase and super abundance of love, Grace Upon Grace.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
