“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 18:10).
Little children have angels who are always coming before God for them. Woe, to those who produce snares for these little ones, v.7. It would be better if a millstone were tied around their neck and they were thrown into the sea, if your hand or eye cause one of these little ones to stumble, it is better to remove it, v.6-9, take heed not to despise one of these,v.10. Despise means to regard as unworthy of one's notice or consideration; to look down on with contempt or aversion; it may suggest an emotional response; a condemnation as low, vile, or feeble.[1] The son of man came to save these that are despised, v.11. God holds these near, especially the fatherless and widow.
"Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation" (Psalm 68:5). God is a righteous God, "He upholds the widow and the fatherless" (Psalm 146:9). Job describes his righteousness by how he helped the fatherless, "I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him" (Job 29:12). When God judges He will be swift against those who despise the widow and fatherless (Malachi 3:5) and He said knowing him is reflective in how you help the least of these, as what you do to them you do to Him (Matthew 25:45; Matthew 25:40). "God is the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe. He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing" (Deuteronomy 10:17-18).
"God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family," (Ephesian 1:5). Would he not care for the fatherless, making them a son and daughter? God gave his son for us, who was "despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him" (Isaiah 53). God understands those that are despised, he is their helper. In the night like a thief, the wicked, "they kill the widow and the sojourner, and murder the fatherless" (Psalm 94:6; Job 24:14), but to you God, "the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless" (Psalm 10:14). God's heart is toward the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, He allows them to take of the tithes (Deuteronomy 14:28-29).
James understood, he wrote, "religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction," (James 1:27). Why is this pure religion? Why are the least of these so special to God? God understands our infirmities, he was despised by man. Like they did to Him people hide their faces from the least of these, regarding them as unworthy of notice, they even look down on them with disapproval and dislike. They are helpless, no one to care for them, Jesus understands. "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:14). The Bible is clear if we fail to help these we fail to do that which is near to God's heart. The kingdom of God is about helping these.

What was the guilt of Sodom? "Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy" (Ezekiel 16:49).
