Law of Sin

"For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me" (Romans 7:19-20).

By Grace we are released from the law and sin (Romans 6:14), we are born again, sealed with the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-8, Ephesians 1:13). We delight in the law of God in our inner being, (Romans 7:22), we "live under the freedom of God’s grace" (Romans 6:14). However there is another law that wars against my spirit (Romans 7:22-23). This is the law of sin.

"I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate" (Romans 7:15). The very fact that these things are not what I want to do proves that the law is good, v. 16. I am in Christ. "For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out", v.18. So I see that my body is governed by the law of sin, dwelling in my members (Romans 6:20;23).

"Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?"
(Romans 7:24). Because of Jesus Christ I can overcome, I serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin, v.25. "The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:56-57).

"For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:2).
