To the Church Under Trial: Spiritual Discernment and Eternal Glory

This article is not a message written to outside observers, nor is it a report asking people to support a ministry or view suffering through statistics and mission fields. It is a word of love, comfort, a call to prayer, and scriptural truth spoken directly to the church under persecution.

To the Church Under Trial: Spiritual Discernment and Eternal Glory

I. Seeing Beyond the Natural Mind (1 Corinthians 2)

When you experience fiery trials, persecution, or the pressure of this world, the natural mind evaluates our circumstances strictly through physical sight. To the natural man, suffering looks like defeat, weakness, or abandonment, because the natural man does not receive or understand the things of the Spirit of God—they are foolishness to him.

But you have not received the spirit of this world; we have received the Spirit who is from God, whom cries Abba Father! Through the Holy Spirit, you possess the mind of Christ and can have divine discernment. You see what human intelligence and earthly power can never comprehend: that God’s presence is not bound by earthly ease, and His glory is not measured by temporal security. As 1 Corinthians 2:9 declares in your heart:

"What eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor mind of man imagined, is what God has prepared for those who love him."

What God has prepared for you is not merely an earthly resolution or physical comfort, but eternal fellowship with Himself, complete transformation into the image of His Son, and a glory that far surpasses anything this world can offer or take away.

II. Enlightened Hearts and the Weight of Glory (Ephesians 1 & 2 Corinthians 4)

In the midst of hardship, the Holy Spirit grants you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in knowing Christ, enlightening the eyes of your heart. Through this spiritual sight, you discern the true hope of your calling and the riches of your inheritance and the glory being revealed.

Scripture reveals that your inheritance and God's glory are distinct realities:

  • Your Inheritance: Your unshakeable covenant standing as adopted children of God, securing your eternal place in His kingdom.
  • The Glory: Being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, transformed from glory to glory as you abide in His love. Transformed from glory to glory.

Glory is not so much a place it is the essence of being. Because we spiritually discern this eternal reality, we can declare with the Apostle Paul that our present trials—no matter how intense or painful—are a light and momentary affliction. It is light not because your pain is ignored, but because it is being weighed against an eternal weight of glory that is working within you. Present suffering is not retributive punishment or divine anger; it is the refining of your faith, shaking away earthly things so that the pure, unshakeable life of Christ shines through you.

III. Living by Faith in the New Covenant (Hebrews 10)

Under the New Covenant, you do not strive in human strength or legalistic performance to earn God's favor. The Holy Spirit has written God's law directly upon your heart and mind, establishing an intimate, living relationship with the Father.

You stand in the lineage of the faithful in Hebrews 10-11, who accepted affliction and the seizure of property with joy because you know in your heart that you possess a better and lasting heavenly possession. As Hebrews 10:38 promises:

"The righteous from faith will live."

Your life and endurance are sustained by faith in the Son of God who loved you and gave Himself for you. Human systems and worldly powers rely on threat, force, and earthly wealth—things that perish. But your life tried by fire in the furnace of affliction is more precious than gold in the eyes of God. 

IV. Unshakeable Assurance in His Love (Ephesians 6 & Romans 8)

This is a call to the church as a whole, stand firm in the Spirit, put on the full armor of God, and pray at all times in the Spirit, remember that you are held in the absolute love of the Father. No threat of this world, no trial, and no earthly authority can alter your spiritual reality and separate you from his love.

You do not fight for victory; you stand in the victory already won by Jesus Christ. When trials surround you, let this spiritual discernment fill your heart with unshakeable peace:

"If God is for us, who can be against us!"

Nothing in all creation can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. You are deeply loved, held by eternal promises, and God has prepared a place for you, to abide with Him forever, in glory.
