The Promise of Life Through God's Lovingkindness

now, for that raising up Jesus from the dead, no longer to be on the point of returning to corruption, in this way saying 'I give you the pure faithful [promises] of David (Acts 13:34)

In Christ, the promises of God are fulfilled. Jesus is before all things, all things are created through him, and all things hold together through him (Colossians 1:15-20). All the promises of God find their yes and amen in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). The new covenant confirms the promises to David of lovingkindness.

"Incline your ear and come towards, made alive in being, I will make with you an everlasting covenant, the lovingkindness to David confirmed" (Isaiah 55:3). This verse has been translated to speak of the sure mercies God promised to David. But this is the verse believed to be referenced in Acts 13:34 and it doesn't seem like a Messianic prediction but looking closer we can see the idea that the promises to David, speak of not seeing corruption and this promise would be fulfilled through Christ.

Paul writes, God rich in mercy, through his great love made us alive, and saved us, to demonstrate in the ages that have come the superabundant riches of his grace in kindness to us in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:4-7). The new covenant, established by his death and in his blood, and indestructible and eternal by Jesus being raised in power from on high, and now seated giving the promised Holy Spirit whom by many are made alive. This is how through the new covenant, the promises, and the lovingkindness to David are confirmed.

The promises confirmed through David of God's loving kindness point to dealing with corruption or death, the promise of resurrection and eternal life, the promise of a Savior through whom the promises would be confirmed, and the promise of the forgiveness of sin for all time that which one could not be set free from in the law of Moses (Acts 13:23-29).

but who God raised did not see corruption (Acts 13:37)

David fell asleep and was buried with his fathers and saw corruption, so when David said "let not your Holy One see corruption" he spoke of the Messiah whom God raised from the dead and who did not see corruption. And because he raised Jesus from the dead no more to see corruption, thus the promise comes true "I will give you the sacred and faithful [promises] of David. Which is spoken of in another (Psalm 16:10).

through whom given to us the honorable and effective promises so that through them you come into existence, escaping the corruption in the world, in sinful desires and come into existence as divine sharers, his divine nature (2 Peter 1:4)

Peter writes through these promises given to us we will escape the corruption in the world. This is one promise given, to David in God's loving kindness and manifested to us through Christ that we are made alive spiritually and will escape corruption, raised and seated in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus. To those called he is honorable and powerful to bring His promises into existence, which he eternally purposed in Christ. All the promises of God in Christ come, so be it.
