who existed from the beginning, who we heard, who we behold, with our eyes, who we looked upon and our hands touched, concerning the word of life. This life was revealed and we beheld and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life... (1 John 1:1-2)John writes Jesus was the word of God that became flesh and dwelt among men and they had looked upon his glory (John 1:14). What glory did they look upon? "The glory who was the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:15). The glory, not of men, "he was in the world and the world was created by him but they did not know him." But he came into the darkness, he was the Light, "In him was Life and that Life was the light unto men and the light shined in darkness..." (John 1:4). Behold, the Light, the word of life.
and this exists the message which we heard from him and proclaim to you; God is Light and exists not, no darkness in him... (1 John 1:5)
This is the gospel message proclaimed to us by John, they looked upon and heard the word of life, eternal life, the light in this world of darkness. Though he was among them as a man, they proclaim to us so we also can have fellowship and be in the light and have life. "Who we behold with our eyes, who we looked upon." Using looked upon and behold in the same verse tells us there is a deeper meaning; you can look upon someone with your physical eyes and behold or perceive that which is spiritual. To behold God implies you boldly come in the light through Christ, in the presence of God, and have fellowship and life; be adopted into the kingdom of God; attain a true knowledge of God. You can know like the demons know of God or know because God has manifested, revealed, and shined his light in your hearts.
because God said, from darkness light will shine, who flooded our hearts with light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6)
God is light, and that light is proclaimed to us through Jesus, in whom shines the glorious knowledge of God unveiled. It is not like the glory of Moses whose face was veiled, it is not like the glory of creation of the celestial bodies which is a different kind of glory, it is the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ. Jesus exists the word, his words exist eternal life. "This exists the message which we heard from him and proclaim to you; God is Light." And since the Life that comes in Christ is the light, the light that shines in our hearts is life. Thus the glory of God is revealed in us, through the light of life.
who God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles, the glorious riches, that of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27)
Oh what glorious riches exist in you, if Christ is in you and the Spirit testifies you are God's child. What hope. This is why creation itself was subjected to futility, to the extent of hope (Romans 8:20). Though the Spirit of life in Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death, we still live in this body so we await, to be set free from this bondage of decay, into the glorious freedom of the children of God, the completion of our adoption the redemption of our body (Romans 8:18-30).
and the life was brought to light and we behold and testify and proclaim to you; eternal life (1 John 1:2)
Behold the glory, of God in the face of Jesus, look upon his glorious face, and may the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ shine in your hearts and give you life in this present life. In endurance, we await the consummation of eternal life. Until then the Spirit helps us in our weakness, even when we have no words nor strength, interceding for us according to the will of God.
