to the extent, of an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading kept in heaven for you, the ones in the power of God guarded through faith to the extent of salvation to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:4-5)
Earlier Peter writes through God's great mercy we were begotten into a living hope (1 Peter 1:3). Paul writes similar text, that when we were dead in our trespasses and sin God was rich in mercy, through his great love, made us alive and raised and seated us in the heavenlies with Christ (Ephesians 2:4-6). Through our new birth of the Spirit, we are begotten into a living hope.* For in this hope we are saved, and we await the fullness or completion of our salvation.* And we have an imperishable inheritance guarded through faith in the power of God.the ones in the power of God guarded through faith to the extent of salvation to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:5)It doesn't say that our faith guards our salvation to be revealed but it says the guarding is through faith and has its basis in new birth, "the ones in the power of God." Thus the ones born of the Spirit, are guarded through faith. This would also mean our inheritance has its basis in the new birth and that this birth has a living hope; an imperishable inheritance. This is good news as we all have unbelief. Abraham had unbelief but was strengthened through faith (Romans 4:20-21). Did Abraham accomplish this or was it through the power of God?
In the new covenant, we are strengthened through faith as Abraham but we have a new birth and are guarded through faith because we are children of God through the power of God not begotten by fleshly means. This new birth is spiritual and we see in the scriptures there is a separation of spirit, soul, and body. Peter writes the goal of faith is the salvation of our soul (1 Peter 1:9). He also writes, through the foreknowledge of God he was set apart of the Spirit and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus (1 Peter 1:2). Then he writes of purification of the soul in obedience to the truth, which the outcome of such is a pure heart with a sincere brotherly and agape love for one another (1 Peter 1:22).
to the extent, of an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading kept in heaven for you (1 Peter 1:4)It is imperishable, incorruptible, immortal, undying, and enduring.* It is undefiled, unstained, unsoiled; chaste; pure, sincere.* Certainly no unrighteousness will inherit the kingdom of God. And it is unfading; hence, enduring.* God has sealed us with his Holy Spirit as a guarantor of our inheritance until Christ takes possession of his own through redemption.* It is why Paul can say he runs the race because Christ has made him his own.* It is an imperishable inheritance as I am eternally secured through predestination.* Paul writes to those whom God foreknew, he predestined (Romans 8:29). Peter begins his letter by saying according to foreknowledge, God set him apart of the Spirit and a sprinkling of blood (1 Peter 1).
Begotten not of perishable seed rather imperishable through the living and enduring word of God (1 Peter1:23)
The Spirit and the word of God have a part in new birth and in our transformation, the renewal of the mind, and the outcome of such is obedience. The most important thing I can do as a child of God (emphasis that I have testimony of such) to bring about obedience is to abide in the word of God. I was begotten through the new birth of the Spirit and the word of God, both are "living" and "enduring" hope, to the extent of an inheritance, imperishable.
