Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Yesterday I wrote for the first time in a while at Love Fulfilled. Afterwards God impressed on me how delighted he was. I felt delight when I did what delighted him. I want for my Father to be delighted in me and to do the things that delights him. The alignment of my hearts desire, I pray, would be in what delights him.
It is true that God wants to demonstrate his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Painfully, I have learned that God delights to do good, for my benefit. When he tells us, warns, shows us... it is truly for our good, often to protect us from pain down the road if we decide to travel. If we but do what delights him, we protect ourselves from heart ache.
do not be afraid little flock because your Father takes delight to give you the kingdom (Luke 12:32)
God delights in us, as the elect."He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me" (2 Samuel 22:20). In the new covenant we have peace before God and stand in grace. Do not fear, do not be afraid, do not be anxious, I will never leave nor forsake you, and no one can snatch you from my hand. God delights in persuading us that he is a good Father who delights to give the kingdom to his children.
He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, (Ephesians 1:5)
What is the basis of our devotion to another? Is it from fear? Or from love? "Exists no fear in love, rather perfect love casts out fear. For fear has
to do with punishment. Now, the one fearing is not matured in love." (1 John 4:18). When the motivation of my heart is love, there is delight in pleasing the one I love, and the desires of my heart fall into its proper place. God is delighted to give us our hearts desire, when we delight in him.
