who existed from the beginning, who we heard, who we saw of our eyes, who we looked upon and of our hands touched, concerning the word of life, and the life revealed and seeing and witnessing and proclaiming to you; the eternal life, that existed with the Father and was revealed to us... (1 John 1:1-2)
Do you know him who was from the beginning who exists the word of life, whose words exist eternal life? In him was life, there was a revealing to the apostles, Peter confessing, John writing, "your words exist eternal life" (1 John 6:68-69). The Father had granted it to them, the revealing of life (John 6:44, 65).Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29, ESV)
They heard his words from his voice, they saw him with their eyes, they touched him with their hands, the word of life. The living bread that came down from heaven, they gazed upon, and fed upon. They experienced him as the word of life, his words as eternal life.
"In him was life and that life existed the light of me... and the word of God, of life, became flesh" (John 1:1-4, John 1:14).
Life was revealed to them. In him was life, and that life was a light to men, and men testified of this life, they experienced it, and proclaimed the word of life to others. Eternal life is more than just about spending eternity in heaven, it is about eating and feeding on living bread, tasting it here on earth. This is what it means when Paul writes the Spirit gives life to our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). I hope we understand this. We will experience the fullness of eternal life in a new glorified body, but now, at the present, our bodies are mortal, and we are experiencing in part eternal life.
"... who have not seen yet have believed." ((John 20:29)
It is an amazing thing. We do not see him with our eyes, nor touch him with our hands nor hear his words from his lips, but his words some two thousands years later are still being revealed to those "who have not seen yet have believed." This is what faith is, it exists things not seen.* "I tell you the amen truth, the one believing has eternal life" John 6:47). The two disciples on the road to Emmaus, they bear witness to whom whose
words exist eternal life (Luke 24:13-32).
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son… (1 John 5:11)
Do you have eternal life? "all who believe in him will not perish rather possess eternal life" (John 3:16). Eternal life is to be possessed now. Do you know the one who is the word of life, whose words exist eternal life? I pray that you do. If you believed you have or possess eternal life. When your were made alive you were raised and seated with Christ in the heavenlies (Ephesians 2:5-6). You have eternal life, if you have believed in the Son.
let not your life's work be all about working for food that perishes, rather of food that abides unto eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you... (John 6:27)
