Jesus Is More than Enough

Now, the Lord be more than enough for you and you abound in love for one another and for all, like as we for you (1 Thessalonians 3:12)

The word more than enough, πλεονάζω (pleonazō), is translated as to be more than enough; to have more than enough, to have in abundance; to abound, be abundant; to increase. May the Lord cause you to increase, to abound. May the Lord be more than enough for you. I think to find the Lord more than enough is to find him as treasure. Where your treasure is there also will your heart be. There is no other substitute that will take his place. To find the Lord as treasure is to find Jesus to be more than enough.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:15-17, ESV)

More than enough, more than the world has to offer, which appeals to the lust of the flesh and eyes, and the pride of life and worldly things. The connection between finding the Lord more than enough and abounding in love does not go unnoticed here. If we love the world and the things in the world then we do not find the Lord is enough. And if he is not enough we will not abound in love for one another nor for the world. The treasure of the heart is not seen in how much money we give away but whether we treasure Jesus and find he is enough. We also see the connection between treasure, God's word, and love. If we abide in his word we also abide in his love (John 15:4,9).

Now, the one supplying seed to the sower and bread for food supplies and increases your seed and grows the fruit of your righteousness, in all riches, to the extent all your purity of mind (2 Corinthians 9:10-11)

The seed is the word of God, it is real food Jesus said, the food we must eat for eternal life. Nothing else will supply the spiritual need of God's children. Jesus is the living bread that came down from the Father whose words exist eternal life. The only thing that will increase and grow us into fullness so that we bear fruit that glorifies God, producing a harvest of righteousness is the word of God. Abiding in his words we find how Jesus is more than enough, his words are words of life, eternal life, supplying all our needs thus we find that Jesus is enough.

Paul said the service of his ministry was to supply what was lacking, so to cause increase, supplying more than enough to the saints and because of this was overflowing through many thanks to God, through the approval of his service God is glorified, as many are becoming obedient to their confession to the extent of the gospel and their purity of mind results in liberal fellowship with them and all the saints (2 Corinthians 9:10-14). We know that the seed is the word of God and that we only have fellowship with the trinity and each other through the word of life (1 John 1).

Being supplied, increasing into the fullness of Christ, of maturity, where we find Jesus is enough, brings thanksgiving and praise to God. And we give to others what we find is enough, giving cheerfully, not out of constraint but because we find what we have received to be more than enough, treasure, thus it is treasure given to others. Paul says this is the service of his ministry.

We pray that it is the service of every ministry, sowing the seed of the word of God that brings about increase and growth in the knowledge of Jesus, until the church is no longer children but all reach mature adulthood, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. We pray the seed increases to produce a harvest and many needs are supplied so that Jesus is found to be more than enough.
