Knowing Christ Deeper

And this in the sight of knowing that we know Him, if keeping His commands.*

There is a time to be a child and a time to grow up. A child has certain characteristics John writes, they know the Father and that their sins are forgiven. Knowing God is being a new creation, God's Spirit is placed within you and you have testimony that you are His child. A child has testimony of blood, in that their is peace before God in the blood of Christ, their sins have been forgiven. In regards to growth Paul writes what counts is being a new creation, and faith energized in love. A child which is deeply rooted in faith and love will grow up into Him, truth in love. How does the child grow up? Paul writes there is one more thing that counts, keeping his commands. I believe this is the testimony of water, not like washing of dirt from the body, but a purification or ruling over sin in the body. John writes, the young person is strong and has overcome the evil one as the word of God abides in Him. In his words comes purification. A child grows up, truth in love, in knowledge of the Son. In the sight of knowing Him speaks of this growth, of growing up in knowledge of Him. Thus a sign of maturity, of growing up in knowledge of Him, is keeping His commands.*

The one saying I know God and keeps not his commands exists a liar and the truth exists not in him.*

John is not talking about the ten commandments but that which was from the beginning, the word of life, the truth, the word of God, whose words exist eternal life and freedom. The fruit of knowing Him deeply is life and freedom and a growing up into maturity were the outcome is keeping His commands. This fits with scriptures, it is a mature plant that bears fruit and the one born of God, in whom his seed abides he will grow up to bear fruit. In this we also see a Spirit of truth in that the anointing, which abides in us who are a new creation, teaches us to abide in Him. In the words of Jesus we grow up in knowledge and if we have fellowship with him, we also have fellowship with the Father.

I am writing to you fathers because knowing the one from the beginning...*

John writes of growth in three phases; of a child, young person, and father. A father speaks of adulthood, of one who is mature. The father grew up to become mature and he grew up in knowing him who was from the beginning, Jesus. Jesus is the word of God that was in the beginning, the word of life that created all things, whose words exist eternal life and the light and life of men, who existed with the Father and was revealed to men.* Obedience is a fruit of growth, it is maturity and maturity comes in knowledge of Jesus, not following the Mosaic Law, commandments, regulations nor principles and rules... The words of Jesus exist the perfect law that provides freedom as when we abide in truth, we know the truth, and we are set free. This law is perfect as unlike the Mosaic Law this law perfects and matures one unto obedience and it gives life. The perfect law is active in perfect love, as the bond of love leads to perfection. Thus we grow up truth in love in knowledge of the Son. "Now, truth in love, grow up in all into Him, who exists the head, Christ."*

the soil bears fruit naturally; first the stalk then the head then the full grain in the head.*

In the parable of sowing it is the good soil, where the seed has been planted, which the seed grows deep roots, and sprouts up to endure the weeds, so to bear fruit. These hear, receive, and understand the words sown. These grow up in knowledge of the Son. What produces the good soil? The grain is produced in the head, thus if we the branches abide in the head or the Vine we will bear fruit. The stone the builders rejected has become the "head" corner stone  or foundational stone. John writes there will be those who go out on their own, no longer of the head, they do not continue in truth, they speak of the world and will have followers of the world appealing to the flesh and taking them captive.* Such an organization will not produce good soil thus will not grow up children up into maturity knowing Christ. But if the words of Jesus heard in the beginning abides in us, we abide in the Son and Father and will bear fruit and this is the promise that he made to us; eternal life.

do not love the world nor the things in the world, if anyone loves the world the love of the Father exists not in them. Because all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life exist not from the Father but from the world and the world is passing away but all doing the will of the Father abides for all time.*

It is truth if you abide in Him you will have a long and fruitful life. If I do not abide but walk in darkness I do not "do" or yield the truth. If I love the world then the love of the Father exists not in me. If I do not obey the commands of Jesus, most notable the one to love my brother, then I have not grown up to bear fruit, then who am I? I am either a liar or still a child. Surely, I do not know Jesus on a level that equates to knowing him deeply. Such knowledge of Jesus on a deep level would be reflected in my maturity, that I have grown up in knowledge of Him, in his words which overcome the world and bears fruit of obedience. To grow up in knowledge of Jesus would reflect in character the full measure of the stature of the image of Christ, such a one is a father that knows and walks with him from the beginning, who walks as Jesus walked. The fruit of knowing Jesus deeply is maturity and life, so we pray that we may know Christ deeper.
