Fellowship In Truth

We exist from the one God, the one knowing God listens to us, whoever exists not from God doesn't listen to us. In this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.*

We exist of God John writes, so we exist different from the world. We are born of God thus exist of truth. The world doesn't know us nor will it listen to us, nor will it love us. We are not of the world we are of truth and those who abide in truth will listen to one another. This is what John is writing, and this is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. We test the spirits in that the Spirit of God testifies we are his own, we are loved, and teaches us to love one another and to abide in truth, who is Jesus. This is how we have fellowship, truth in love, thus this defines what fellowship is. It is as Jesus walked, walking in the Light, walking in the Spirit, walking in love, and walking in the truth. The truth is that God exists love thus those who walk in truth love his brethren.

Whom we have seen and heard, proclaiming to you so that you also may have fellowship with us...*

John is proclaiming that we can have fellowship with them, and our joy may be complete. In this message John defines true fellowship, the one they saw and heard and believed in and proclaim is the Word of Life, who is the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the One in whom we have fellowship. The very concept of fellowship is in Jesus Christ, which is also abiding in the Word of Life, the Truth. This Word of Life exists Eternal Life thus those who have fellowship commune and labor for this food that endures unto Life. If this food is so important to us then we would talk about it and have fellowship in it. Fellowship gives testimony that we are born of God, His Spirit is in us. John writes this is how we know the Spirit of Truth from that of error in that we are taught to abide in Jesus, the truth. When we have fellowship with the Son, we also have fellowship with the Father, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.

Beloved do not believe every spirit but test the spirits that they exist of God for that many false prophets go forth into the world.*

Those of the world, the false teacher, prophet and minister, they are of the world and the world listens to them thus their following will be of the world. They will claim to be called of God to dispense truth thus it will not be a two way discussion and fellowship in truth. The promise to God’s children is that greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. So if a child of God gets caught up in false religion the promise is that you will not continue walking in such untruth. You might be deceived and tossed to and fro for a time but greater is he that is in you. At some point you need to come out from among them. If you continue with someone unyoked there is no guarantee you will win them over and there can be no fellowship in truth with those who do not know Christ. Standing in truth is important for growth and so is being with those who walk in truth. Those who continue in a lie as if it were truth are not of God. We so easily forget the words of Jesus; the spirit of the anti-christ is coming which John says is now in the world; the devil will plant weeds among us; there will be many false prophets who come in his name. Those of truth will eventually listen to one another, it is a two sided relationship, they have fellowship in truth, who is Jesus, the Word of Life. Truth in love, they have fellowship with one another.
