"Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me not because you saw signs but because you ate of the bread and was satisfied. Work not for the food that perishes but for the food enduring unto life eternal which the Son of man will give to you..."1
Thousands, Jesus fed with five loaves of bread and two fish, a sign like that of manna from heaven, and when they had been fed, they wanted to take Jesus into the city and crown him king. But Jesus was not focused on earthly things, but on heavenly things, he tells the people they too must focus on these things from heaven, this is the Way to the Kingdom of God.
“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never hunger, and whoever believes in Me will never thirst. Truly, truly, I tell you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life."2
This entering into the Kingdom must be a laboring into the spiritual things of heaven. One must rise above the earthly things into the Spiritual realm, one must labor into this. Believing is the work of God, such we do not boast in, it is through faith, but we must labor into it. Jesus said you must eat his flesh and drink his blood for eternal life. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us..."3 This Word is his flesh, it is not earthly bread, but bread that was in the beginning with God and was God and is God. One must eat of the Word. The Word is the seed that is sown into your hearts, but there must be a preparation of the heart, which is the soil.
Jesus said not only must you eat the bread for eternal life but you must drink his blood. Jesus is a life giving Spirit, he gives living water. It is the Spirit that draws men to Jesus, men can't come to the Father but through the Son, nor can men come to Jesus without the Spirit drawing. The Word is sown but it is the Spirit that prepares the soil for the seed. There is blood of the circumcision of the flesh, and there is blood of the circumcision of the heart. It is the blood of the Lamb that cleanses our hearts and conscious from evil works. As Paul writes it is the Spirit that seals, and we are circumcised of the heart, this is the true Jew. It is by the Spirit that we are born again. It is the Word that washes the people of God and sanctifies the church.4
Jesus replied. “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day."5
Jesus is the Word, who came in fullness of Grace and Truth, he is Truth, true worshipers of God worship in Spirit and Truth. So the Way to the Kingdom is seeking not earthly food, but heavenly food, the way is sown by the Word and prepared by the Spirit, it is by flesh and blood. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. This Way to the Father, is eating flesh and blood, "for by Grace are you saved through faith..." The Way to the Kingdom is by Word and Spirit, Jesus is the Word, the author of faith, he is the Way. One must not labor for earthly food but for that which doesn't perish, believing is rising above the earthly into the heavenly.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you... Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?"5
