"Little children we should not love in word nor tongue but in deed and in truth, and by this we will know that we are of the truth and before him our hearts will be assured."1
Oh what assurance it is to know Jesus is mine, oh to know, that I know, that I know, it is a taste of divine glory. "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us."2 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.3 Oh we hope to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
Blessed assurance, what Harry Ironside came to understand as, "For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven."12 I heard and I called upon His name and I was born from above, my assurance is not in what I did, but in what He did, this eternal work of God. It is this Spirit within that testifies that we are His children. "For the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself;"7 "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen."5 These first fruits of the Spirit gives hope, that we are His, "For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope."4 I hope we love others so, that we would want them to have blessed assurance!

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels, descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
