I Rescued The Fatherless

"I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them... I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban... I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth."1

"Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil." When we stand face to face with evil we are left with a choice; will I stand firm, will I be courageous, or will I flee. Oh to be like Job, I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth.

I recently returned from my third visit to Ukraine, a country where its people are fighting for identity. Ukraine has paid a high price when it comes to this, during its struggles a large portion of men have paid the highest price. The Famine Monument in Kiev (see pictures) stands as an memorial to the estimated millions who died during its struggle, the birds represent its fight for liberty and the little child speaks to the plight of its children. With the sudden absence of those seeking justice for them, the orphaned are left to their own demise. What this has created is a cycle of abandonment which has led to their exploit.

I want to turn my eyes from such, almost as if it is not there,  life would be more comfortable. When Ukraine became independent what happened to these children is difficult. A demand for images of young children outside the country produced a market for it and under the name of "Child Modeling" hundreds and thousands of children were modeled. Most of what existed has been banned and controlled from entering the U.S. However one can still see the existence of such today. When we look evil in the eyes, we are left with a choice. Will I stand firm, will I be like Job and snatch these children out of the mouth of predators?

While adoption is a solution it will only save a few and will not impact the culture or change the cycle in the country. Adoption has also created another type of exploitation, while better than the alternative of sexual exploit, it has become big business and people are making excessive profits off of adoption. Even the idea of "hosting" children opens up all kinds of opportunity for exploitation. There has to be a better way. I believe there is, Jesus said, Go into all nations... a simple solution which rescues the fatherless. There are about 350 state run orphanages in Ukraine. It would only take 350 churches to adopt each orphanage, I believe this a viable solution and a simple solution that allows for long term care. These children need those to fight for them, this is best done by building relationships through letter writing, mission trips, etc... this is vital not only for these children but for changing and impacting the country, breaking the cycle.

Change a orphan, change a country; change a country, change the world. These children are easily exploited because they have none to defend them but we know God in his holy place is a defender of the fatherless. Now you know a little of what I know, what will you do? go I hope and pray, together we as Job did, can break the fangs of the wicked and snatch the victims from their teeth, I Rescued The Fatherless
