Family of God

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that He might give you, according to the riches of his glory, power to be strengthened by the Spirit of Him through the inner man.1

And God said let Us create human beings in Our image... So God created human beings in His own image.2 Man was created in the image of God. Then God looked down and said man is alone, he needs a helper, so He created woman in the image of God. A helper, a woman was created in the image of God. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply...” In the beginning God created a family.

In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of humans... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.4 Jesus, begotten son of God, before returning to his Father's house said to his disciples, I will not leave you fatherless, I will send you a helper.

A family was created in the beginning, it is something special as it represents God's image. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.5 This word for parent is from the base ginomai, which means to come into being/manifestation implying growth. Being a parent implies growth, it is understanding God the Father on a new level. Parents beget children, who are born in their image, male and female. The father and mother is committed to raising the child in their image.

A father is one who imparts life and is committed to it; he is one in intimate connection and relationship with a child, this word for Father is pater. It is used of our heavenly Father who imparts life, from physical birth to the gift of eternal life through the second birth. Now the word for mothe is meter and means the source or origin, that which produced and nurtures, the female parent.6 Mother also means mater; matrix, the womb, matter, materials of which any thing is made, a mold for casting an image. Family would seem to represent the trinity of God. To honor our parents, to not provoke children, is a command that comes with a promise, long life on the earth. The family can be said to be the most important element of society, when the family fails so does society. History proves this to be true.

Jesus spoke of the legalistic Pharisees as being from their father the devil. They were spiritually fatherless and had the desires of the devil who was a thief, liar, and murderer, no truth is in him.The devil left the family of God, he has no father or mother, he is fatherless. He seeks to kill, steal, and destroy the family of God. The thief does not come except to steal, kill, and to destroy, I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.7 The devil seeks to make more orphans like himself, his children are in the Church, they are accursed children, they promise liberty but themselves are slaves of the flesh, with great words of emptiness they allure through lewdness.8

God understands the plight of the fatherless. A father to the fatherless, this is God in his holy place.9 Through Christ we have a way to the Father's house.10 Adopted we become joint heirs with Christ. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession.11 We who believe are adopted, sealed into the Family of God.

They the Spirit bear witness with the spirit of us that we are children of God,12 This word for they is autos which means self, he, she, it, they, them, same. The family bears witness with us. And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. We are not just someone who inherits but we are heirs closely identified with the Son, Jesus. We are heirs of the promise, heirs of righteousness, heirs of salvation, and heirs with Christ in the Father's house. If I am a joint heir with the son then I am a son of the Father. Would such an adoption into the Family of God, make me a son of God? For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory.14

This concept of family exists with God, he created family in his image. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. At the heart of society is the family. When the family goes, society goes. The beauty and goodness of God can be seen in the family above all else, the intimate relationship with a father and the nurture of a mother contributes to who we are; conforming us the image of God. I relate to my heavenly Father as I do my earthly one. An adopted child must be nurtured and lavished with grace, his justification in being in the family must be achieved. The child's love for the parents is perfected by the parents love for the child, in such a relationship being perfected in love the child seeks to please the parents. We are being perfected by Grace and Truth, conforming to His image, set a part, sanctified into the fullness of God; Grace and Truth.

So then we are no longer strangers and foreigners but are fellow citizens of the saints and of the household  of God.15 The Family of God.

The Family is of God
