Bread of Life

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.1

The words of Jesus produce life everlasting. He was the one sent from the Father to be the bread of life to the people. Why do we read the Bible today? Do you seek life, these words which are living and active? The word of God is the bread of life, it is Jesus sent from the Father to give everlasting life. His words are written down, by humans inspired by God, the words abide forever conveying his principles and precepts. We can read them and eat the bread of life, we can experience this power, this everlasting life.

Often the words of Jesus seemed, to the Jews, to contradict scripture but it was their misunderstanding that was the issue. His words are life. The woman caught in adultery, the people sought to bring death to, but he did not, he told her to go and sin no more. But what if she did sin again, would Jesus condemn her then? Of course not. He tells us if someone sins against us and repents we are to forgive them, even if they keep doing it over and over, this is what Jesus said. Would Jesus tell us to do something he would not do? No, he sought to help them understand him, word of God, everlasting life.

For the word of God is living, and powerful...3 IT IS ALIVE. It speaks of life, everlasting, but more important it is alive, it is active, powerful. This word is alive as it is the Word of God, Jesus. This word for powerful, energés, properly means energized, full-of-energy (operative); from en (inside, within) and ergon (work) is a deed (action) that carries out (completes) an inner desire (intention, purpose). It is action within that carries out inner energy, desire and purpose. We can be alive with Passion, Purpose, Power!

When I was younger Jesus appeared before me, a brilliant light, he chose me that night, for a purpose. He has been. My life until recently has been a seeking of earthly pleasures, I could not not follow him that night, my heart loved other things. Today, I am a testament to the fact that nothing will ever satisfy like the bread of life. and that he is working out that purpose in me. Hechose me that night for this very reason. We are to labor for this everlasting life. There is a fulfillment, a coming to being of this purpose in me, it is so much greater than I.

Trust more in this Jesus who gives the bread of life, who is the word of God, whose words are spirit and truth, life. How can I experience this life? Read his words. Trust more in his power, for he gives us this spirit of power, not of our understanding, not of our strength, but his. Trust in God, lean not on your own understanding, acknowledge him in all your ways and he will direct your path.3 If we trusted in this bread of life, if we would eat his words, his living water would flow from us. The enemy seeks death, Jesus came that we might have life, abundantly, everlasting. Seek, ask, knock. Give life, so many desperately hunger and thirst for it.
