Oh, taste and see that God is good! Blessed is the man who trusts, takes refuge in him![1]
God's goodness is abundant, he has stored it up and gives it to those who trust and take refuge in him, he works it toward us so that others will see his goodness. [2] Surely as his adopted children, his goodness and mercy follows us all the days of our lives and because of his goodness we will dwell in his house forever.[3] Every living thing looks to God, He satisfies their desires, he is mindful of every sparrow who looks to him for food.[4] How much more is he mindful of man, to those that seek him he is near, to those that cry out to him he saves, all that call on his name, he fulfills their desires, because he is righteous and good in all his ways.[5]
It is the goodness and power of God that brings one to salvation. "In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will."[12] God sent his son for goodness, "He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed, and God was with him."[13] Oh, to be thankful of His goodness, this goodness of his Son that paid for our sins, for the sake of his goodness and steadfast love he remembers us and he chose to remember our sin no more.[14] And God proclaims his name before us and makes his goodness pass before us, being gracious and merciful to whom he wills.[15]
Children of God produce goodness, "The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil."[17] Goodness is a fruit of the spirit.[18] Maturity is measured by goodness and works done in meekness of wisdom.[19] Goodness is prized by God, and he wants us to devote ourselves to doing good things, as it is his nature, and to avoid unprofitable and worthless things, those that divide, destroy, that do not good things.[20] Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple![21]

All things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.[6] His goodness shall be looked upon on earth as in heaven.[7] In fact every good gift is from heaven, "coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."[8] His goodness expels darkness, walking in him we display his image, his character, which is all that is good and right and true.[9] We know to do good, as God has told us what is good; to do justice, love kindness, and to walk humbly with him.[10] He wants us to be good to others, "So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."[11]

God has good plans for those who love him, plans for good and not for evil, to give a future and a hope.[22] Helping the least of these is good, this is God's heart, what James writes is true religion helping the orphans and widows, it is good as God's character is. It is by our goodness to others that they will know Jesus is from God and that we are his disciples. He created us for goodness, for his workmanship to do good works, that he prepared beforehand that we should do. Taste and see, that he is good, and you will see that the goodness of God satisfies the soul.
"The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him."[23]
