"And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:2-4).
When we become like little children, humbly trusting in him, he becomes our God giving us a new heart and a new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26). God cares more about your heart, "For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7b). When we trust in him like little children would trust in a caring father, his spirit teaches us many things, writing them on our hearts (Hebrews 8:10). When we realize his great love for us, our hearts love him back (1 John 4:19).
God's greatest commandment is that we love him with all of our heart. This is not a difficult thing to do, it is not beyond our reach, "It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it" (Deuteronomy 30:11-17). It is on our heart to love him, we must trust and obey for there is no other way...
