“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him" (John 3:16-17).
God did not come to condemn, because the world is condemned already. We either believe in Jesus where there is no condemnation or we are condemned already in our unbelief, this is the judgement, that God is light, whoever does what is true comes to the light. By the Love/Grace of God we live so that we might be saved (John 3).
We do not love God out of fear or misguided obedience, "we love because he first loved us" (1 John 4:19). When we have a relationship with God, we begin to see the love that he lavishes on us, we come to experience and grow in understanding and revelation of him and his love (Ephesians 1:7-9; 17-19).
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" (1 John 4:10). It is when we "have tasted the goodness of the word of God", Hebrews 6:5, eaten of the bread of life, John 6:35, drank of the living water, John 7:38, when we come to know this Jesus, the word of God, John 1:1;14, who is eternal life, John 17:3, who is Love, 1 John 4:8.
"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him" (Psalm 34:8).
