Salt of the earth

You are the salt of the earth...You are the light of the world... Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:13-16).

Salt is absolutely essential for life, it is one of the oldest, most ubiquitous food seasonings. The taste of salt (saltiness) is one of the basic human tastes. Chloride and sodium ions, the two major components of salt, are needed by all known living creatures. Salt is involved in regulating the water content (fluid balance) of the body. The sodium ion itself is used for electrical signaling in the nervous system.[1] Salt has been considered a valuable commodity during human history.

When we believe we become something special, we become the salt of the earth. When we believe we become one with God, "whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit" (1 Corinthians 6:17). When we heard the gospel of our salvation and believed we were sealed with the holy spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13-14). Jesus called this being "born again" a separation of flesh and spirit (John 3:5-6). This is the mystery of the gospel given by Grace through faith (Ephesian 2:8-9). Our spirits are born again, justified, we still have the flesh, it will always be at enmity against God (Romans 8:7-8).

We are the salt by walking in spirit and in truth. The word of God is truth, we are sanctified through it (John 17:17; Romans 12:2). In Ephesians Paul states that the word of God is the sword of the spirit (Ephesians 6:17). The word is a double edge sword, as it is the word of God and the spirit of God. We can not worship God through doctrine or theology alone and we can not worship God through spirit alone, we must worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24).

Jesus is the living water and the bread of life (John 4:10, 6:48). He is the word of God (John 1:1,14). Our gospel is not about doctrine, tradition, the law... "before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed" (Galatians 3:23). Jesus came that we might have life! it is All about faith and life in Jesus Christ! (John 10:10). There are many thirsty and hungry souls waiting for this living water, this bread of life. We must be the salt of the earth, people need some spice.

We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” (John 4:42)
