Jesus wept

While Jesus was on earth, "He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation" (Hebrews 5:7-9).

In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus knew His time had come. Jesus was God and He had become flesh to dwell among us (John 1:1, 14). He came to be the sacrificial Lamb, taking on all sin, once and for all. Jesus would become sin so that we could become righteous in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). The pressure was intense “and being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground” (Luke 22:44).

Jesus is the manliest man I know and the Bible records Him weeping in several places. "Jesus wept" is a phrase famous for being the shortest verse in the Bible. In the moving experience of the resurrection of Lazarus and a showing of what was to come “Jesus wept” (John 11:35).  Jesus stated before raising Lazarus, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25). If there is anything to get emotional over it is in believing and walking in Him.

Jesus “when He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it” because He knew they would “not recognize the time of His visitation” (Luke 19:41-44). On a donkey He road into the city, drove the traders out of the temple, and then taught daily in the temple. "But the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people were trying to destroy Him” (Luke 19:47). Jesus knew the Jews would reject Him, so going into the city was an emotional moment indeed.

Jesus was passionate about people and His divine purpose. He is passionate about you dying for you. There is no greater love than a man would lay down his life for a friend. He is good and His love lasts forever. He is honorable and worthy of our love, a manly man. He weeps for His church today, that we would be as compassionate for raising those who are dead as He is.
