Christmas Light

In him exists life and that life exists a light to men (John 1:4) There was light that came into the world. He was born as a human, a baby in a manger. There came a man sent from God, he came to bear witness about the light, he was not the light rather he testified about the light, the true light that would enlighten all men, he was coming into the world.  He came into the world, which he created, and the world did not know him. The light suddenly came upon them in darkness, and darkness could not understand or comprehend it. He came to his own but his own did not receive him. But to those who did receive him, he gave them the authority to be born into the kingdom of God, not of human birth nor desire but of God. The light came among men, and they gazed upon his glory, that of the only Son of God from the Father, full of grace and truth. For he was born among his own, under the Law given to Moses who was a servant in the house, but he was the son, the owner of the house, and ...

Love Never Falls

Agape love never falls... (1 Corinthians 13:8-13) This verse in Greek is a little difficult to translate as we do not quite have a word in English that it directly translates to. It is usually translated as "love never fails" or "love never ends." The word for fall is πίπτω (piptō) which is mostly used to mean fall. *  Fall can mean "to come to an end suddenly; to vanish; to perish" or "to drop from a higher place" or "to depart from the faith, or from rectitude; to apostatize" or "to decrease." *  Agape love never falls, comes to an end, and as we will see love energizes our faith to keep us from falling away, departing from the faith. for in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision strengthens any rather faith energized through love (Galatians 5:6) Paul is writing to the Galatians and speaks of what he calls false brothers who came into that church teaching them to go back to Judaism. They begin with requiring c...

A Foundation to Endure

now having no root in himself rather exists for a time and when suffering or affliction comes through the word, he falls away (Matthew 13:21) Jesus tells the parable of the sower. The goal of sowing is that the seed takes roots and the implanted word grows up to endure the thorns to bear fruit, some thirty, sixty, and some hundredfold. Throw away any notion that you can bear fruit by sowing money, what is sown is the word of God. What is needed to mature, to bear fruit, is deep roots and endurance. Let us look at how this process is worked out in us and why sometimes we do not endure. Persecution, the deceit of riches, and the cares and anxieties of this world are the thorns that try to choke us out. Jesus told a parable where the devil plants seeds among the true seeds. The purpose of the weeds and thorns is to choke out growth. Paul tells us in contrast to building up or growing the church there will be doctrines of men based on deceitful scheming and human cunning to keep the church...
