When Jesus began his ministry he made this statement to Israel, " Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand ." It is really a statement to Israel to turn, and repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Things are changing in regard to the kingdom. I truly tell you, unless a person is born from above, he is not of the kingdom of God (John 3:3) Not of the kingdom of God is the same as saying not being children of God. Being born from above is the same as saying being born from God of the Spirit.  So Mephibosheth ate at David's table, like one of the king's sons (2 Samuel 9:11) Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan and Jonathan was the son of Saul. Jonathan and David loved one another deeply (2 Samuel 1:17-27). He even paid homage to Saul who had tried to kill him. In 2 Samuel 9 David looks for those left of the household of Saul so that he can show compassion to them ( 2 Samuel 9:1 ). He is told of Mephibosheth and sends for him and invites him to sit at the king's table forever. So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he ate always at the king's table. Now he was lame in both his feet (2 Samuel 9:13) Mephibosheth was crippled (broken) but he was invited to sit at the king's table. It is a picture of God's grace, we are chosen to come to the table.
