Give Me Bread

" give us bread sufficient for us, now ." 1 This verse is usually translated as, " Give us today our daily bread . " This word for daily and sufficient, is believed to be from epí , " fitting" and ousía , "being, substance." Others suggest it is more probably from epi "on the basis of" and a derivative of eimi , "to be, exist." This word eimi is the word Jesus used when He said, "I Am." So we can say it is earthly bread we pray for but more importantly we need this Bread that is "I Am," bread that exists eternal life. We are "to be" or exist on heavenly Bread, now, today, daily. We must eat Bread for life and we must be persistent in getting this bread. " I Am (to be, exist) the living bread from heaven, having come down, if anyone will eat of this bread, he will live to the age and the bread also that I will give, the flesh of me, is for the life of the world ." 2 Jesus is the...

Relationships of Trust

" Fathers do not provoke your children, that they do not loose heart." 1 Paul writes that fathers are not to provoke their children to wrath, nor is authority to be threatening. This verse I believe also speaks of new covenant authority. The prophet Malachi spoke of the people becoming discouraged because the authority were not good examples, they had become emboldened to continue in their sin and the people cried out, what does it pay to serve God? And after Malachi spoke such, there was four hundred years of silence. Then we see the abuse of authority in the new testament, such authority condemned the Son of God. In a day and age were it is increasingly difficult to discern truth, it helps to be in godly relationships, and the truth of scripture can guide us into these. The golden rule, the law of Christ, etc... these principles guide us into relationships that are mutually beneficial, ones established in trust. There is nothing more disappointing than being around Chr...

The Way To The Kingdom

" Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me not because you saw signs but because you ate of the bread and was satisfied. Work not for the food that perishes but for the food enduring unto life eternal which the Son of man will give to you ..." 1 Thousands, Jesus fed with five loaves of bread and two fish, a sign like that of manna from heaven, and when they had been fed, they wanted to take Jesus into the city and crown him king. But Jesus was not focused on earthly things, but on heavenly things, he tells the people they too must focus on these things from heaven, this is the Way to the Kingdom of God. “ I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never hunger, and whoever believes in Me will never thirst. T ruly, truly, I tell you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life ." 2 This entering into the Kingdom must be a laboring into the spiritual things of heaven. One must rise above the earthly things into the Spiritual realm, one must labor ...

Imitators of God

" Therefore be imitators of God as children beloved, and be walking in love, according also as Christ loves you and gives up himself for us, an offering and sacrifice to God, to be odor fragrant (sweet smelling incense .)" 1 Under the old covenant, the priests had to go through extensive cleansing before serving in the temple. There were large baths called seas and God even gave them the recipe for soap, from the fat of red bulls and cedar ashes, which occurs from a chemical reaction between oil and lye. Water was used extensively for purification, blood was for the sacrifice of sins, and incense was a sacrifice and it seems a covering for the sin of the priests. 2  The sacrifice here that Paul writes of is one that was given by example of Christ, a sacrificial love. By such we are to walk; we walk in love, light, and wisdom, by such we are imitators of God. In the new, the sacrifice that God desires comes from the heart, if it is what comes from the heart that defiles a...

Light To The World

What is the purpose of the Church? what is the purpose of Christianity, what does it mean to have Jesus as a foundation stone in our church and personal lives? Christianity itself means Christ like, therefore we are to be like Christ. So when we lay a foundation it should be built upon the principles of Christ. He was a Light to the world, our lives should be a light unto the world. Now we might think the end goal of Christianity is to reach the lost, we often here these things, it is all about the lost, therefore we are to sacrifice for such a cause. But as we focus on the end goal do we break the commandments of God in the process. The Bible says the end goal of our faith is the salvation of our souls, but our souls are not what is born again, this is our spirits, therefore we are working out our soul salvation. Thus the end goal of faith brings soul salvation, which is to be conformed to the image of Christ. Put another way it means I am becoming like Christ, Christ-like, aka a ...

Bless Your Enemies

" Bless those persecuting you, bless and not curse, rejoice with those rejoicing, weep with those weeping. The same thing toward one another minding, not the things lofty minding but with lowly going along, not to be wise in yourselves, to no one for evil repaying, providing right things before all men ." 1 This word for lofty is derived from hupsos , "height, heaven, high." The root word for hupos is hypér , "in behalf of, above" properly, beyond (above); (figuratively) to extend benefit ( help ) that reaches beyond the present situation. A slave is not "above" or lofty over his master, a disciple is not above his teacher. We are no longer slaves and Jesus is our Master and Teacher, we do not put ourselves above Jesus, nor above men, those who do are lofty people, they think highly of themselves. Jesus is our Master and Teacher, by his indestructible life, death, and resurrection he ascended on high , he has all authority. When he walked...
