Sons of Disobedience

" in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience ;" 1 There is a spirit that works in the sons of disobedience, in times past we were among them and had conversation with them, Paul writes. 2 This conversation means abiding, the same concept of influence we see in Psalms, but now we see at work spirits.3 Living is by implication, we were once like them in disobedience, a spirit, according to the prince of the power of the air, according to the course of this world, conforming to its desires, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and mind. Disobedient to the things of God, children of the carnal, of the flesh, guided by a spirit of disobedience, we sought the desires of the flesh.  We were children of wrath, which  means desire, violent passion, by implication punishment: - anger, indignation, vengeance, wrath. 4 T he opposite of the spirit of disobed...

Bond of Brothers

" I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning... the one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. " 1 A bond of brothers can be defined as as a uniting force that holds brothers together. If we are in Christ, we sit in the heavenlies with Christ. Our uniting force is Christ, He is a warrior, a King that is honorable and worthy of our respect and love. We bow at the feet of our King, this unites us as a bond of brothers. It is through this Bond of unity that we are perfected in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 2  This is the greatest Glory of the Son to the Father, " I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them .” 2 In the beginning was light and the light was the light of the world, this light was in the beginning, John writes about it, the Word that was in the beginning ...

Heavenly Things

"If the things earthly I have told to you and you believe not, how will you, if I tell you of heavenly things, believe?" 1 Jesus tells Nicodemus, a member of the Pharisee, a teacher of the people, that he must be born from above to see  the Kingdom of God. How can this be? responds Nicodemus. Jesus asks him, " Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things ? Nicodemus had seen the earthly things, signs, wonders, healing... so he went to Jesus, " Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him ." 3  These signs did not instill an understanding of Jesus as the Son of God, only that He was a teacher or prophet. But Jesus responds, " if not anyone be born from above not is he able to see the kingdom of God ." 4 Believing is a spiritual thing, one must be born of the Spirit, " the wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where i...

Kingdom Mystery

"To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven..." 1 This word for know means I come to know, learn, realize ( ginṓskō – properly, to know, especially through personal experience (first-hand acquaintance)). This realization is an experiential knowing, as there is substance and evidence. Mary said to the angel, "How will this be since I do not know." How will I know such, I have no experience, I am a virgin. Zechariah said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.” Now, we see two different words and two different ways to know; Zechariahs' know was different, it is  gnōsomai , it is not a faith based question seeking to understand, it is like Sarah's laugh about the birth of Isaac. 2     Lord, help me to understand, to know, help my unbelief. This type of understanding or knowing, first-hand acquaintance, is the basis of faith. The opposite type of knowing, Jesus accused ...

Living Bread

"I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh." 1 Eating this living bread from heaven, this brings eternal life. Pretty simple right? in this bread is our Salvation. It is a special type of bread, from heaven, it has supernatural power, it creates things, and makes things, it makes all things new. It authors Faith and Salvation. And it is tasty and good. " Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you ." 6 These words are tasty as honey. 5 These words the prophets of old ate of, " Your words were found and I ate them, And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Your name ," 4 These words we are to take to heart, " Son of man, listen carefully and take to heart all the words I speak to you. " 7 " Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;...

Teaching as Learning

" You then who teach another, yourself you do not teach ..." 1 This word for teach is didáskō (from daō, "learn") – to teach (literally, "cause to learn"). Jesus said, "no one shall be called Rabbi, indeed one is of you the Teacher, moreover all you are brothers." 2 Such is an important lesson in authority, in the old covenant God gave man authority to judge and dispense God's laws, but in the new Jesus has all this authority, Teacher, Father, Counselor... God has this authority. You are all brothers, Jesus said. Paul writes about this family, a picture of the body of Christ, we sit in the heavenlies with Christ. He uses the example that we are priests called to priestly service in the temple of God, where Jesus is High Priest who gives "gifts" to men for priestly service, duties in the temple. Where is authority in the body that sits in the heavenlies with Christ? or in the temple? Some want to speak of authority as related ...

Two Daughters

There were two daughters, of the same mother. The father had adopted them and adorned each with all his riches, in costly fabric, precious stones, and fine jewry. They were beautiful women and men from all nations came to them. Their names were Oholah, the oldest, and Oholibah, her sister. And they were daughters of the father, and they bore sons and daughters. 2 Oholah sought love elsewhere. In men who were princes, governors, and rulers, desirable young men, clothed in royal colors, riding stallions. She lusted after them and gave herself to them, the choice sons of Assyria; with all of them, and with all whom she lusted after; she defiled herself. 4 Nor did she leave the lovers of her youth, the Egyptian men who had worked her virgin nipples, and poured their fornication on her, she lusted after them . 5 Therefore the father was angered and gave her over into the hand of her lovers. " They uncovered her nakedness and they took her sons and her daughters and killed her with...

House of God

" and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house ." 1 Now God appeared to Abram saying "to your seed will I give a land likewise." 2 And Abram built an altar to the Lord who had appeared to him. The promise is passed from Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, Jacob would later call this place Bethel. We know the story of Jacob, Esau sells his birthright, and the first born blessing of inheritance is given to Jacob instead. Esau will only be comforted if he can reverse what he has done, so he seeks to kill Jacob. His mother has Jacob leave to find a bride in another land. Isaac passes on a blessing to him, " God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham !” 4 Jacob leaves and one night, sleeping with a stone as a pillow,...

A Cheerful Giver Loves God

"Each as he purposes in his heart, not out of regret, or of compulsion, indeed a cheerful giver loves God ." 1 Have you ever heard the expression God loves a cheerful giver ? most have and out of twenty Bible translations it says so but I believe if we look at it closer, we see this;  those who love God give cheerfully . Now is there a difference? well is God's love dependent upon me giving? Is Grace earned? what about salvation? Does God love me because I follow His commandments or do I follow His commandment because I love God? Does he love me because I give? it is much deeper, His love is based upon Grace and through the works of Jesus and faith in Him we become justified in his sight, adopted into his family. Do I give for God to love me or do I give because I love God? The foundation of the new covenant is of Grace through faith, unmerited favor, unconditional love. It is a matter of the heart. God wants our hearts First and the principle of giving is to appeal ...

Pure Offerings

" If then I am a Father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts to you ," 1 Oh, Jehovah has loved them. 2  How have you loved us they say? “Is not Esau Jacob’s brother?" Are we not your people? we will rebuild. Have you forgotten your youth, says the Lord? Why do you not honor your Father? And you have left your wife, your love, your companion, and have married the daughter of a foreign god. “A son honors his father and a servant his master. O priests, who despise my name." But you say, ‘How have we despised your name?’ Your offerings are polluted. “You have said that the Lord's Table may be despised, when you offer him polluted offerings.” How are they polluted you say? When what you give in sacrifice is not pure, is this not evil to God? Would you "present that to your governor; will he accept you or show you favor? Says the LORD of hosts." 3  You say I am your Father but you dishonor me. This lack of...
