Disciple Implies Discipleship

" and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free ” (John 8:32) Notice the "and" at the beginning of John 8:32. This sentence is not to be taken by itself. "So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “ If you continue in my word, then you are truly disciples of Mine ;" (John 8:31). A common phrase to use is "the truth will set you free". However, if we use only part of this sentence we actually make a false statement. A disciple is one who is believing, continuing, and knowing the truth, which is the word who is Jesus. Disciple implies discipleship. In Computer Science there is an area of discrete mathematics called Propositional Logic, " which studies the  logical  relationships between  propositions  (or statements, sentences, assertions) taken as a whole, and connected via logical  connectives ." *  Discrete mathematics draws heavily on logic which is the study of the principles of valid reasoning and inference...

God is in control

" I am the  Lord , and there is no other. 7    I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the  Lord , am the one who does these things " (Isaiah 45:6-7). An atheist friend of mine told me once, that religion was a way for people to deal with bad times. Does he understand God more than most and c ould the bad times that befall us be the very answer to pray?  In a world that seems so full of trouble, anxiety, and fear it seems overwhelming and maybe this is the reason; in calamity we cry out to God, in distress we call upon His name.  "The earth shall soon dissolve like snow The sun forbear to shine But God, Who called me here below Will be forever mine Will be forever mine You are forever mine" -- Chris Tomlin, Amazing Grace Jonah on his way to the bottom of the sea, David with the loss of his children, and Job in the loss of everything. In the end the calamity brings them closer to God, as Job stated...

Legalism

“ If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, “Do not handle, do not taste, and do not touch!” (Which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence ” (Colossians 2:20-23). Religion teaches self-denial, denying self is a mechanism to achieve a higher relationship. However we need to know the difference between a biblical self-denial and false self-denial. False religion teaches an abasement of self or a denying of self for self promotion, not the denying of self that the Bible teaches. Denying self is a response to love, not a way to obtain salvation, righteousness, or position. Because He first loved I love and follow Him. M...

Lordship

“After he [the jailer] brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:30-31) “It is impossible to ask a weightier question! It is deplorable that we hear neither it asked with no more frequency, with no more agony. The spirit of slumber which the poison of the old serpent has brought upon the children of men is to be deplored exceedingly. Awaken us out of this stupidity, O God of all Grace, lest we perish.” – Spurgeon. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ! “This Great Jesus; Son of God: God the Son. The Son of Man: God a man” – S.D. Gordon in Quiet Talks On Prayer . This is such a glorious mystery that I dare not try to describe such a thing. The Bible is clear though; through God becoming man and through the works of God as man (His life, death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven) God gave a New Covenant were salvation is through believing in Jesus the Lamb...

Faith is Simple

Trust and Faith is so simplistic but often so difficult. Jesus's mission and relationships with others were always at the forefront of His life. Because of a request by His mother, Jesus's first miracle turned water into wine and revealed His glory at a time when He was not yet ready. He did so to honor His mother, as she trusted He would provide (John 2:1-6). With exception to His divine purpose, everything else Jesus did He did in regards to peoples' trust in Him. He did not give a definition of trust and faith because He knew people would see faith by what faith did. See, He is the author and perfecter of our faith. "He instills faith within us and from its exercise we Trust in Him more" -- Mark Johnson. E M Bounds said, "It was the product of His work, His power, and His person. Trust is too simple for verbal definition. It is too sincere and spontaneous for theological terms. The very simplicity of trust is what astounds many people."

The Seven C's of Christianity

Be His. The great C ommandment is to Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Seek God. Seek and you will find, ask and you will receive, knock and the door shall be open. He desires your heart. Know God. Seek Understanding and Wisdom. We come to God and walk in Him by Faith. Set your eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of faith. Know faith. Seek Love. Love is eternal. Now abides faith, hope, and love, the greatest of these is love. God is love. Know love. Seek Identity. Build a foundation on the rock Jesus, the cornerstone of a living temple, the Church. Lay stones of other people. Lay stones of attributes; character, principles, and values. Grow your roots deep in his love. Know identity. Be His Love. A c ommandment l i ke the great is the new C ommandment. Love like God. This new commandment to love others Jesus said is like the first. Loving God produces a love for others.   Love fulfills the law. The Law and the prophets are summed up in two ...
