Putting Off the Grave Clothes

The dead man came out, his feet and his hands bound in bandages and his face wrapped in cloth. Jesus said, loosen him and let him go.*

One translation reads, "take off the grave clothes and let him go." Like Lazarus there is no question we were dead, we existed as the old man before Christ spoke life into us. And he continues to give us life. We died with Him, we were crucified, buried with Him in baptism, we participated in the likeness of His death so also we participate in the likeness of His Resurrection. Jesus is the resurrection and the Life, if you believe this then "take off the grave clothes," you are a new man, so walk in newness of life. It is a picture of baptism, the earthly man, the old self dies, crucified with  Christ, putting off the grave clothes we walk in newness of life.

Therefore, as you go, train in discipleship all, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teachings them to guard all that I charged to you, and remember I exist with you all the days, to the end of the age.*

Oh, it is truth that we walk together with Him, and should walk in truth and agape love with one another. Jesus didn't train one to establish the church, no, as he went, he trained in discipleship the apostles, on which the church is established. We do not make disciples, Jesus does, but we facilitate, having been taught, having been proven ourselves, we now guard the truth in teaching others. You don't send a child to train others, first you must be proven, grown into maturity. Notice, there are three parts; train in discipleship, baptize, and teach. Have you ever heard of anyone teach baptism along with discipleship? Teaching encompasses all three components and in such we see the importance of the teachings of baptism, sanctification in truth, which transforms one into maturity.

Now faith exists; assurance, hope, conviction, things unseen.*

"Assurance means confidence, trust, being sure; it is a standing under, a taking of a thing upon one’s self; an assumed position. Faith exists as assurance, so please be sure of your salvation, if you are not go here.1If the same people are raising there hand for salvation then the issue is one of assurance, which is an issue of faith, as faith exists assurance. It is a fearful place to be in a state where one is not assured of salvation, and it is the goodness of God that persuades. Of course, it is hypocritical to condemn children for not understanding, for not being obedient, when you haven't taught them. Faith is given as a measure, a tiny mustard seed, which must increase, in fact the nature of faith is that if you truly have it, then it will increase. In this we see another element of faith, conviction, or the trying in order to prove, or in the trying we are persuaded of truth. It is the testing of our faith that proves or brings us into maturity.

And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed, the renewing of the mind, to the extent that you prove the will of God, that it is good and acceptable and perfect.*

This word perfect means brought to completion; fully accomplished, fully developed; fully realized; full grown of ripe age. Perfection speaks of maturity, and increasing in faith plays an important role in it; fixing your eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of faith. Abraham did not turn back because of unbelief.* But he was strengthened in faith, being fully convinced that what God said, he exists also powerful to do, this is why faith was credited to him as righteousness.* How do we become fully convinced? do not turn back because of unbelief but be strengthened in faith. The word of God, the truth, strengthens faith. What is the outcome of faith increasing? perfection or maturity, transformation, the renewing of the mind.

... to the extent that you prove the will of God, that it is good and acceptable and perfected.*

To the extent that you prove the will of God. Proving is the testing of faith, the proving of maturity and for the child of God the battle is in the mind as evil easily wars against the mind to bring it into captivity to the flesh. Transformation is the renewing of the mind, not the other way around, one is not transformed by thinking positively, but thinking positively is an outcome of a renewed mind. Transformation is accomplished by sanctification in truth. What does transformation produce? Obedience. The true identity of the child of God is realized as the old man with a carnal mind opposed to God's laws has died, metamorphosed in his place is the new man, renewed in mind, reflecting the true identity and nature of the new man inwardly. The new man finds God's will good and acceptable. In this purpose we find his grace is sufficient and that we will rule over sin under grace, not under the letter of the law, as it is His power perfecting us. Faith is energized in agape love, as children are rooted and grounded in love. The increasing, the proving, the perfecting of our faith succeeds as faith also exists hope and because faith is active in love.

Now faith exists; assurance, hope, conviction, things unseen.*

"Conviction here is defined as a trial in order to prove; a certain persuasion. This fits with the root word of faith and the idea of faith being a firm persuasion, assurance, and it is the concept of approving and receiving. Assurance and conviction exist as things of faith, things not seen."2 Transformation, the renewal of the mind, is how we are proven, and God goes to great lengths to help us be persuaded, saying anything we ask for this purpose so we become. In this we see the real spiritual blessings of God, and the fruit that multiplies thirty, sixty, and hundred fold being the fruit of abiding, in the vine, in the truth, not earthly money as some teach today. As children, God is convicting, persuading that there exists something more.

So that the proving of your faith, more precious than gold that perishes, proven by fire, also now obtain to the extent of praise and glory and honor in the revelation of Jesus Christ.*

Prophecy said Jesus would come as a refiners fire. He is the author and perfecter of faith. Faith is proven and exists convictiona trial in order to prove. I was convicted that I needed to be baptized, so I was dunked in water, in the traditional teaching that said it was an act of obedience. But I was still convicted there was more so I "rededicated" my life but even still I knew there was more. I found the more in the truth, in the teachings of baptism, which is much more than just a commitment to follow Jesus. Baptism did not benefit me until I was taught the truth, in which is our reasonable service, to present the old man dead, crucified and buried with Christ, and to be raised, to walk in newness of Life. I am committed to that truth, presenting that my body, the old man, a living sacrifice. Teaching baptism is teaching truth.

Also now, you abide in that you learned and being convinced of, knowing among whom you have learned.*

The word convinced means to make trustworthy; pass. to be assured, assurance of beliefAssurance, confidence, trust, being convinced, these come as faith increases, just like Abraham was strengthened in faith being fully convinced. Faith increases by abiding in the truth, and in abiding comes knowing, and in knowing comes fully convincing, which outcome is Liberty and Life. The truth in the teachings of baptism, taught me I did not die, that I can't flog the old man to death, I can't give up sin, the truth told me the old man died, was crucified and buried with Christ and I was a new creation in Christ. Jesus exists the resurrection and life, He is truth and His words exist eternal Life. When we abide in truth we see the increasing of faith which exists assurance, conviction, and hope in things unseen. In the truth is sanctification, the proving, putting off the old garments, the old grave clothes, and walking in newness of Life.

The Crucible

" The LORD will go forth like a warrior, He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies ." 1 He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. The definition of zeal is great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective. It is this time, to arouse zeal, shout, raise a war cry! As Paul writes, " In diligence not lagging in spirit being fervent serving the Lord ." 2 Our energy comes in the bond of brotherhood, formed in the crucible of combat. A crucible is place of severe test or trial, it is derived from Latin crucibulum ("night-lamp, metallurgic melting-pot"), and is a derivative of crux ("cross"). 3   The Bible speaks of the crucible of the cross for Jesus and for those who follow Him. The purpose of a soldier is two-fold; to accomplish the mission and to care for one another, as commanded. Each soldier has a role to play on a team. Without knowin...

One Grace

" moreover,  One, to each of us has been given Grace, according to the measure of the gift of Christ ." 1 Grace is a founding principle of Christianity. It is by Grace we grow into the fullness of Christ through faith; " to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. " 2  Without Grace we will never reach this fullness. The weakness in the Law was it attempted to do it in the flesh, and people failed over and over, so God in His infinite wisdom, unveiled this mystery, through faith in Christ we have grace to boldly approach His throne of Grace, to receive grace and mercy as needed! This gift of Grace is properly understood by examining this verse in three parts;  moreover,  One Grace, to each of us has been given, according to the measure of the gift of Christ . First, we understand,  One   grace, it is easy to miss the  One,  and this verse is translated in different ways, I believe it says One Grace and i...

Those He Calls He Equips

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen . Hebrews 13:20-21 When God calls us he equips us, the God of Peace, the one who brought us from the dead by the blood of the Eternal Covenant, will equip you so to do his will. So in this concept of being equipped, we see the calling being irrevocable. "For it is God who works in you to Will and to act on behalf of his good pleasure" ( Philippians 2:13 ).  God called you, he's working in you equipping you to work on behalf of his good pleasure. "So that the man of God may be complete fully equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:17 .  In Hebrews 12 we read God disciplines those he loves, so that we share in his holy character. As the scrip...

Word Of Life

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life. " 1 Jesus is the Word, He was in the beginning with God. 2  All things were made through Him. He is the Word and Light of men, the way, the path, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." 4  Thus we can say as the Psalmist, Jesus, the Word, is a Lamp unto my feet, and a Light unto my path. 5  "In him was life, and the life was the light of men." 6  Concerning the Word of Life, " the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life ," Proclaimed, that our joy may be complete, a glory like that in the beginning, fellowship with the Father, with one another, and with his Son Jesus Christ, the Word of Life. "You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot...

The New Living Way

The New Living Way "... Now, at the present released from the Law, having died in that which held us captive, so that we serve in newness of Spirit and not the old written code " -- Romans 7:16 Paul states that we are now united to Christ in his death and also raised with him into newness of life. What held them captive was sin but also the Law, it was a guardian until the appointed time God would send a Messiah (see School Master ). Paul uses the metaphor of marriage to describe how we are released from the Law; like a wife whose husband dies, now she is released from the Law and can marry another, so also have we died with Christ and are released from the Law and bound to Christ in a new covenant. The purpose of this is that we live in a new living way of the Spirit and not fleshly through the old written code or Mosaic Law. " So then brothers, you also have died to the Law through the body of Christ to the extent you exist by creation of another, the one raising you f...

New Testament Growth in Christ: From Foundation to Fullness

New Testament Growth in Christ: From Foundation to Fullness The New Testament presents a vibrant and multifaceted picture of spiritual growth, not as a static event but as a dynamic, lifelong journey for the believer. This journey, with emphasis on a strong foundation, progresses through a transformative process of maturity forged by endurance, ultimately aiming for the profound goal of experiencing the "fullness of God in Christ." The Foundation: A New Creation The inception of growth in Christ is marked by a radical spiritual new birth, a foundational shift that defines the Christian experience. It is not merely a moral reformation, but a divine act of creation. The apostle Paul declares this truth in 2 Corinthians 5:17 : " Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come ." This new creation is initiated by faith in Jesus Christ, where believers are justified and reconciled to God through His sacrifice. ...

Truth All Around You

Stand then girding your loins in truth and putting on the breastplate of righteousness. * How can a soldier stand in battle if he has not been prepared, trained? How can a house stand if it has been built on sand? How can we stand against spiritual forces if we have not been prepared? Our battle is not against flesh and blood so in regards to such, what good is armor to a child or how can one stained with dirty clothes stand with a defiled conscious? To stand one must be prepared, be his workmanship, someone prepared beforehand to do battle. For this purpose you begin girding your loins in truth, putting on truth, wrapping truth all around you. ... girding your loins in truth... * The word girding is perizōnnymi (from peri "about, around" and zōnnymi "put on") meaning around about put on. Often gird your loins with truth is translated as putting on a belt. Surely we can say truth holds on the garments and confidence in truth is important in standing. I like th...

Putting On the New Self

Putting On the New Self Theme: Spiritual Growth & Identity in Christ Key Scripture: “And to put on the new man, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” — Ephesians 4:24 (ESV) 🕊️ Day’s Reflection The Christian journey is not about becoming a better version of our old selves. It is about walking in The New Living Way , putting on the new man created in the likeness of God. Scripture calls us to put on the new man , and this call is not symbolic or abstract. It is a command grounded in spiritual truth and lived out in daily walking as Christ walked. 📜 Scripture for Meditation 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV) “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Ephesians 4:22–24 (ESV) “To put off your old man, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new man, created after the likeness of...

First Fruit Offering

through his plan, he brought us forth through the word of truth to the extent we exist a kind of first fruit of all he created (James 1:18) There is so much in this verse that we could spend time on, like the phrase "through his plan." But we want to focus primarily on what it means for us to be the first fruit of all that God created. he has made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure which he purposed in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time (Ephesians 1:9) Paul writes one of the spiritual blessings that we receive in Christ is that God has made known to us the mystery of his will. A plan for fullness, in which he is working out according to what he purposed in Christ for our good, that we are being conformed to the image of Christ. We relate this to the phrase in our featured verse, "of all he created."  Now God's glory was manifested through creation since the beginning of time. However, God's purpose and plan that is bein...
