A House, Fitted Together

" And everyone hearing these words of mine and not doing them, he will be likened to a foolish man who built his home upon the sand ." 1 This word for home is oikia it refers more to a household rather than the physical building of a house, properly it means, an inhabited edifice; the inmates of a house, the family; property, wealth, goods. Jesus went into a house of a ruler, he went in to heal a little girl, the inhabits of the house laughed at him when he said the girl lived. But he spoke truth, the girl was healed . T he Pharisees associated His authority to do such to the power of demons or to Satan, His response to them; "every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:" 3  A divided home will not stand. How is anyone able to enter the home of a strong man and the goods of him plunder if not first he bind the strong and then the home of him he will plunder. 4   His House, His...

Spiritual Development

When the perfect comes the in part will pass away. When I was a child I spoke, thought, and reasoned like a child, when I became a man I did way with the things of the child . 1 This word for " I did away with " is katargeó, (from kata and argeo ; to be (rendered) entirely idle, literally or figuratively) it is used elsewhere in the scriptures to mean nullify, released from, passing away, that which fades away, severed from, separated from, discharged from, loosed from. It is this spiritual concept of putting on the new and doing away with the old. While this process is supernatural, the truth sets free, it also requires an abiding in the truth, something to be done on our part. It is interesting that this word is derived from the word argos  which refers to being idle, lazy, thoughtless. This concept of doing away with being a child implies we need to think, act, to have self-discipline, to not be lazy in this. It is this concept of metamorphosis from child t...

Grace Upon Grace

" The Law entered that transgression might abound, however, where sin abounded, Grace overbounded, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness into life..." 1 This word for transgression has been translated as offense, trespass, sin, and falling away, it  is paraptóma  (from pará, "from close-beside" and píptō, "to fall") – properly, fall away, after being close-beside.  This offense, trespass, sin that leads to death came through one man Adam. He walked close to God in the garden, before he fell away, committing the offense. 2 Because of one man Adam judgement came, the result condemnation. 3 However, through one man Jesus Christ, we received reconciliation, righteousness, Grace upon Grace. Because of the offense of Adam many died, " by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one." 4   By one man’s disobedience many were made sinners. 5 This word for sin is hamartia from A "not" ...

Valley of Decision

Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 1 Recently I saw this blood moon, over the rolling hills of Kansas. It was a spectacular sight and peeked my curiosity. A 'blood moon" refers to the blood color the moon takes on during an eclipse. Some have attributed the recent tetrads of eclipses as signs of God impending judgement. What is clear to me, it is a time of decision, for God's people.  In the book of Joel the prophet writes that nothing has been seen like this: Israel is being plundered by a  ferocious  enemy, a  northern  army. There is a cry to give ear, you elders, awake, you drunkards, awake,  For a nation has come up against My land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the fangs of a fierce lion. 2   This nation has laid waste to His vine, ruined His fig tree, stripped it bare and thrown it away......

Alive, But Dead

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 1 A name, reputation, or characterization  is inseparable from the person to whom it belongs, i.e. it is something of his essence. 2   Jesus the one who holds the Church in His hands, says to this one, you have a name, an essence of being alive, but you are dead. Alive, but dead, why was this? they had soiled their garments, no longer white, no longer walking with Him.  The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. I recently ended up at the doctor's office at the most inopportune time. There waiting, God led me to speak with an elderly couple, both in their 90's. The husband was there to see the doctor so I talked with the wife for the most part. She too had sensed this was...

Abiding in Truth

Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing . 1 There is this concept that states the truth will set you free. There is the general concept we are set free, no longer slaves to a sinful nature, that we have a new nature, born again as Jesus said. Also there is this concept of a  continued abiding in the truth which sets free. This makes sense, right? If we were changed over night would we need Him? bam! you are new, everything is perfect... God wants a relationship with us, a continuous one. Through this w orking out of our salvation we learn to abide in him, or to put another way, we learn to walk in the Spirit. In truth, in our inner being we delight in the ...

After God's Heart

After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.' 1 God measures by the heart, not the external. David was a man after God's own heart because He followed the greatest commandment of God, loving God with all his heart... this produced obedience in David. David wasn't a perfect King, we know he committed adultery and murder, it was because of the blood on his hands that God would not allow him to build His temple, something David so desired to do. David paid the price for his sin, however for the most part he was a man who sought to love God with all his heart.  King Saul had been anointed by God, but he for the most part sought to do his own will. He did not follow God with all His heart. Saul did not put forth God's will as He wanted, this did not make him a ruler God sought. Saul would continue to do his own will, "Shall I...
