Praise His Name

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God.1

God loves praise because goodness is his attribute. It is like a father affirming his child, I love you, you are so good. And a son giving his father glory. God is so good that He is the source of goodness.2 This affirmation, this goodness, edifies us, it builds us up into his love, it reassures us in our relationship with him. God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.3 He wants our praise because he loves us so, when we praise him, our spirit exalts his name, and we are one with him. This is the glory that Jesus so yearned to experience again, as He prayed to the Father, that we too would experience this oneness.

God is also omniscient, which means He knows all that there is to know. It is at times difficult to see his goodness because one of his attributes is transcendence; his ways are so beyond ours that our finite minds can not completely grasp it, but when we do we exalt his name. One way for him to reveal himself to us is through praise. God is also self-existent and immutable. He was never created, has always been and he never changes. He doesn't depend upon anyone or anything for his existence.Yet he created us and loves us so much that he values a relationship with us. God is glorified in praise.

He loves us. But what does love have to do with it? We all have missed the mark and fallen short of the glory of God.6 This word for glory is dóksa from dokeō which means to exercise personal opinion which determines value, when our personal opinion values our heavenly Father such glorifies Him. God is glorified in our belief, when we value Him. Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?7 Our belief rebirths the spirit within us, gives us a new heart, and understanding of His great love for us. This great love is manifested in us, we love him because he first loved us. Belief is the work of God, it is His persuasion of his goodness towards us. He likes to persuade us, it glorifies him. Belief establishes his love in us and in return we love him, this glories Him.7

Praise exalts his name. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.7 His glory is manifested in the heavens and on earth when we praise his name. When we as his body and his temple gather together in his name, the Father is in our presence. His living temple on earth reaches to the heavens, His name is exalted on high. When two or more are gathered together in His name, He is there. Such glory is in the oneness with the Father, as the Son was one with him we can experience this, Jesus prayed for such. We experience this oneness in evermore intensity when we are one with him and with other believers.

Praising God is a sign of love. The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will dance over you with loud singing.8 Yes God loves to praise us, well done good and faithful servant. And when we have this relationship with him we cry out to him, Abba Father! This oneness with him others will experience and they being convicted will in turn and glorify God.9

God loves praise because he is so just. The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.10 When we experience his justice we praise him. He is good, really good. He is merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth. He wants us to seek justice for others. We must be diligent at understanding what his justice is, because we can break His greater commandments of love in the name of justice. His justice will edify and build up. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.11

God loves praise because it builds up others. His Spirit lives in us, when we exalt his name our spirit is exalted within us, as we desire oneness with him. Such is the power he gives us, one of love, peace, and a sound mind. Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.12

But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.14 Praise His Name.
