Feed My Sheep

" He said to him the third time, 'Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me?' Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, 'Do you love me?' And he said to Him, 'Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.' Jesus said to him, 'feed my sheep' " ( John 21:17-17 ). Jesus called Peter by his formal name, Simon of Jonas, a formal question awaiting a heart felt answer, do you love me? Sometimes we say things without much thought or action. Yes, Lord, I love you . Jesus responds, feed my young sheep . There is no response from Peter, not even a question, what do you mean Lord? Jesus asks again, Simon of Jonas do you love me? Still the same response from Peter, Yes, Lord, I love you. Jesus asks again, Simon of Jonas do you love me? A response from Peter, he is grieved because Jesus keeps asking him, you know all things thus you know my heart Peter responds. Jesus knows, do you really love me, prove that you love me, feed my sheep. T...

Obedience Above Sacrifice

" Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams " (1 Samuel 15). Saul was going to unlawfully offer a sacrifice, an unlawful sacrifice sounds ironic, but this is what he would have done. Saul reasoned the sacrifice would please God, but in actuality he would have disobeyed God, as he was given very specific instructions to wait for the prophet. “ And you shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice peace offerings. You shall wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you should do ” (1 Samuel 10:8). On the seventh day the people began to scatter so Saul did the sacrifice himself. Samuel arrives and asks Saul "What have you done?" This was a test of his faith and obedience. We see the root of Saul's disobedience, " I have sinned; I have indeed transgressed the command of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and listened to their voice...

Abandoned to God

Utterly abandoned to the Holy Ghost! Seeking all His fullness at whatever cost; Cutting all the shore-lines, launching in the deep Of His mighty power--strong to save and keep. Utterly abandoned to the Holy Ghost!  Oh! the sinking, sinking, until self is lost!  Until the emptied vessel lies broken at His feet;  Waiting till His filling shall make the work complete.  Utterly abandoned to the will of God;  Seeking for no other path than my Master trod;  Leaving ease and pleasure, making Him my choice,  Waiting for His guidance, listening for His voice.  Utterly abandoned! no will of my own;  For time and for eternity, His, and His alone;  All my plans and purposes lost in His sweet will,  Having nothing, yet in Him all things possessing still.  Utterly abandoned! 'tis so sweet to be  Captive in His bonds of love, yet so wondrous free;  Free from sin's entanglements, free fro...

Love of God

" love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind... and a second is like it :  You shall love your neighbor as yourself " ( Matthew 22:37-39 ). And this is the greatest commandment, and there is one like it, to love your neighbor as yourself. We love because we know him for He is love. " We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother " ( 1 John 4:19-21 ). If you love God you will keep his words ( John 14:15 ). Love one another with brotherly affection, outdoing each other in love, deeming others first ( Romans 12:10 ). God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. The principle of the greatest commandment is that loving him and others is above all other principles. " Beloved, let us lo...

Worthy Is The Lamb

"The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" ( J ohn 1:29 ) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son. His Son was in the beginning with God, in him all things were created ( John 1:1-14 ) He is the beginning, firstborn among many brothers  (Romans 8:8:28-30, Col. 1:18). He is the  first  born among the dead who loved us so that he freed us from our sins by his blood ( Rev. 1:5). He is Faithful and True  "and the name by which he is called is The Word of God" (Rev. 19:13).  He came to proclaim good news to the poor, liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, and to set at liberty those who are oppressed (Luke 4:18). Jesus came to do the will of the Father who had prepared a body for him, a sacrificial lamb he was to become, as written in the scroll of the book" (Hebrews 10:5-7). The sacrifices and sin offering were in accordance with the law, God'...

My Yoke Is Easy

" Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light .” ( Matthew 11:28-30 ) There was a soldier who had burning sensations on the bottom of his feet. All he could think about was a sermon he had heard as a child. It was a fire and brimstone sermon it went something like, "you are dangling over hell by a piece of thread and God is going to cut that thread anytime." The preacher goes on to tell of a man whom on his death bed had burning sensations on the bottom of his feet. The preacher tells the man it was a warning from God and that he needed to repent or he would go to hell. But the man could not repent, he tried but could not, so he died and went to hell the preacher said. The soldier relates to the man on the death bed, he tries very hard to repent but can't. Years later he was di...
