God's Own People

you also in him, hearing the word of truth, the good news of your salvation, in Him also believing, were sealed of the promised Holy Spirit, which is the pledge of our inheritance to the extent of redemption of his own , to the extent of the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)  The word his own περιποίησις (peripoiēsis, from perí, "about. concerning" and poiéō, "making") properly, make one's own; completely obtain, i.e. as a full possession. *  Paul writes God "chose us in Him before creating the world to exist holy, blameless in his presence, in love, predestining us for adoption as his through Jesus Christ..." (Ephesians 1:4) God is holy, hating unrighteousness, and has chosen us, called us to be holy. (1 Peter 1:15-17) So how can we be in his presence and be loved? "... God is love, in this, the love of God is revealed in us because God sent his only begotten Son into the world so that we live through him." (1 John 4:8-9) In Christ...

The Fruit of Life

Now at the present freed from that sin, now servants of God, the fruit you have to the extent of sanctification. Now the end goal, eternal life . (Romans 6:22) This verse is often translated as "the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its outcome is life" but I think it is important to note it speaks of being freed from sin and already having fruit. How does one have fruit?  one grows up to bear fruit. Therefore its meaning becomes not that you are led into sanctification by fruit but that sanctification produces fruit, this makes more sense? With the outcome of sanctification being life. A true servant of God is free from sin, bears the fruit of sanctification, and the fruit of life. now, if Christ is in you, although the body is dead through sin, now, the Spirit is life through righteousness. (Romans 8:10) How important the role of righteousness is in bearing fruit through the Spirit. "The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ ...

Christ, Filling All In All

He has made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure which he purposed in Christ as a plan for fullness at the opportune time to bring everything together in Christ to the extent of heaven and that to the extent of the earth . (Ephesians 1:9-10) The word purposed προτίθημι ( protithēmi ) means to place before, setting forth in advance to achieve a particular purpose. To purpose, determine, design beforehand. * God set forth Christ to achieve a purpose, a plan for the fullness of this time. The word fullness (πλήρωμα (plērōma) has the root meaning to make full, to complete fullness, thus meaning a fullness, a filling up. God had a purpose in Christ, it was plan for fullness to bring all together in him. A mystery hidden in God before he created the world that even the angels desired to look into, and at the opportune time, God set forth his Son to achieve his purpose. ...a plan for fullness at the opportune time... The ancient Greeks had two words for time; ch...

Who Will Save Me From This Body of Death?

Wretched man that I am, who will save me from this body of death? ( Romans 7:24) An amazing thing about God working in us through his Spirit, is that the Spirit is Life. Let me explain, the wages of sin is death and sin dwells in the flesh and the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the Spirit is putting to death the deeds of the flesh, thus the Spirit is one of life. We can connect this rendering of sin powerless with baptism which crucifies the flesh and with the circumcision of Christ, that cuts, puts away the flesh. (Romans 6:6, Colossians 2:11) We also can connect this to our calling because the scriptures say that those he foreknew he also predestined, and those he predestined he called. (Romans 8:29-30) Therefore, God chose us, predestined us for adoption before the world was created, in Christ he predestined us according to his purpose, to be conformed to the image of his Son, those he predestined he called, those he called he justified, and those he justified these he glorifie...

The Perfecting Work Of Christ

for one offering perfecting to the extent continuous, the one consecrated . (Hebrews 10:14) This verse is often translated as something like "for by a single offering he has perfected for all time the one made holy or sanctified." But what does that say? If he has perfected for all time the one consecrated, then it is finished. Or is he perfecting the ones consecrated the ones being made holy? How about this translation, "for by a single offering he has perfected for all time those holy or sanctified." Is this not saying Jesus's one offering has made me holy and sanctified? What is actually being said here? Let's take a deeper look at scripture, the words in Greek, the context of Jesus as High Priest, and look at the word consecration and the idea of it in the old testament. Hopefully, this will help bring understanding, in the perfecting work of Christ. now, when this priest offered a single sacrifice on behalf of sin to the extent continuous , he sat down ...

Instrument of Righteousness

No longer present this your member to sin instruments of unrighteousness but present yourselves to God alive from the dead. Also your member to God, instruments of righteousness . * This scripture is related to presenting the body a living sacrifice, holy unto God. This is the sacrifice acceptable to God and that which is our reasonable service. (Romans 12:1-2) It is the call to become holy in character like Jesus. Peter writes Christ gave us an example, of putting to death sin in the flesh, to this we are called. * We are to have the same mindset in this battle against evil. In Christ I am no longer of sin, I exist an instrument of righteousness, so I present my body a living sacrifice for such a purpose. Therefore since Christ suffered in the flesh arm yourselves also with the same mindset, so that the one suffering in the flesh has caused sin to cease . * The word arm yourselves ὁπλίζω ( hoplizō ) means to arm, equip. Possibly Paul is referring to a shield or armor in ...
