The Promise of Something Better

And all these who were commended through their faith, did not receive the promise, because God for us something better planned that not apart from us they are perfected. Hebrews 11:39 This word for commended, "I witness, bear witness, give evidence" speaks not so much of approval through faith but of a foreseeing, evidence, witness of the mystery of the gospel hidden in God in the beginning. So we see this idea that the promise was through the Seed, Christ. By faith these believed God, gave witness to Christ, and are living stones, the church being built upon such prophets, and the apostles, with Jesus being the foundation stone. God for us something better planned through Christ. Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to seeds,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your seed,” who is Christ. Galatians 3:16 This word for seed is sperma , "seed, offspring, descendants" from speiro ; something sown, i.e. Seed b...

The Promise

" For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise . " 1   We see Paul writes of the promise, but what is the promise? and what does it mean that the promise of inheritance is not by the Law but by faith? First we must look at the old covenant to establish what the promise is so that we know how it is fulfilled. Paul writes, t he promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed and came before the Mosaic covenant or Law. To understand the promise we need to understand the promise or covenant to Abraham. " I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. " 2 The covenant begins earlier, " Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of many nations. " 4 It continues, " and fruitful you, exceedingly great I will make unto nations...

Trusting Obedience

“ Everyone then who hears my words, and these doing them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock ." 1 This is where one begins to build up faith, on the Rock. Faith is trust, on a fundamental level, we being born of Spirit upon hearing the words of Christ, we believed, "trusted" that they were true, trustworthy, faithful, thus we are divinely persuaded. So we see the importance of understanding in this area and we raise the question, what comes first, trust or obedience? If you believed in your heart and confess with your mouth, what came first? believing in the heart, Paul writes. At the essence of such a question is an important understanding of the work of God. “This is the work of God that believing in the One He has sent.” 3 Jesus said one must labor for food that endures to eternal life, this laboring is not works of the law nor good deeds we do, not earthly food that perishes. This laboring is seeking, asking, knocking for heavenly bread a...

Requirement of the Law

" that the requirement of the law should be fulfilled in us, not according to the flesh walking, but according to the Spirit . " 1 The Law is not of faith and faith doesn't nullify the requirements but instead faith upholds the " requirement of the law ." Notice, requirement of the law, the Mosaic Law was "written code" of the righteous requirement of God, we must be able to understand this.  The written code or "letter of the law" pointed to the "requirement of the law," the requirement of the law pointed to God's righteous requirement, as Jesus said that the greatest requirements was to love God and the one like it to love your neighbor. The Pharisees adhered to the "letter of the law" neglecting the "requirement of the law." "... much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. " 2 In the new ...
