Encompassing Ministry

" brothers of me, not with partiality hold the faith of the Lord of us, Jesus Christ of glory ." 1 Shelby Not with partiality hold the faith.  Some translations say favoritism. This word is from prosópon and lambanó (from pros , towards, to, with and ops, visuage the front (as being towards view). If my countenance, aspect, appearance, presence, is of one exhibiting partiality then I am a respecter of persons, showing partiality or favoritism. It is interesting that right before this verse James speaks of pure and undefiled religion as to visit orphans and widows in distress, but he mentions it is also to keep oneself unstained from the world. How can we keep ourselves unstained from the world? well the next verse tells of one way. Do not show partiality or favoritism in ministry. The world shows partiality to others based upon material things; fame, wealth, position, status... they circle those about them who have power and wealth. But we as a Church should not st...

About My Father's Business

" My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his business ." 1 I like food, and it's even better with friends. I met up with a friend at a local restaurant. I offered CynShea's as a place to eat because the food is great. Even more important it is also owned by a Christian, another reason for me to support it. Cynthia is a friend, and a discipler of people. A restaurant owner a discipler of people, you say? You can see in her mission statement and values, that this is a ministry to her. If we count the number of hours we interact with our staff throughout the week, then we can see the opportunity for ministry in our organizations. Training staff can be discouraging at times; you train someone only for them to move on, often to better things. I think especially in the restaurant industry, it seems to have a high turnover but I have experienced this with key players in my business, you take on this burden to teach them, only for them to go ...

Ruling Over Evil

" If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it ." 1 Sin is any offense against our creator or our neighbor, sin is the essence of evil ruling us. We have this knowledge of good and evil within us and if we do what is good we are acceptable. If we do not good, then sin is at our door, it seeks to kill, steal, and destroy, we must rule over it. To be accepted is the opposite of offense. To be acceptable is to be good and right. It doesn't matter in what name we do something, we can distinguish good from evil by its very nature.  In a world where almost anything goes, we must again stand for what is good. We can fight this enemy who crotches at our door. Evil is the opposite of good, it enslaves, kills, destroys, hates, plunders, tortures, rapes... it does not care for others, it does not love, its destroys children and familie...
